Tough conditions are set to impact this week’s Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.

The Nevada event is the fourth renewal of the FedEx Cup fall stretch on the PGA Tour, during which players jostle for position inside the top 125.

Rickie Fowler and Tom Kim are the standout names set to feature this week. The Shriners is Fowler’s second fall event after he returned at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

As for Kim, the South Korean is looking to make PGA Tour history and become the first player to win the same tournament three years in a row.

Fowler, speaking during his press conference on Wednesday, was quick to highlight the conditions on Friday. Strong winds and colder weather are set to test the players at TPC Summerlin, something that is rare in Las Vegas.

“Wait and see what we get. I am off in the morning, which looks normal and nice, so try and take advantage of that,” Fowler said.

“And then Friday it kind of just looks tough all day with the wind switching to a not-so-normal direction out of the north and a bit cooler temperature.”

The six-time PGA Tour winner added: “So just have to wait and see. It’s not something we’ve seen here a whole lot, but it’s definitely something we’ve seen this week. Being able to adapt and figure out what you got to do that day is part of what we do sometimes on a regular basis.”

Shriners Children’s Open win would get Rickie Fowler back on track ahead of 2025 season

It’s been a challenging year for Fowler. The American has struggled for form throughout and missed the cut at the US Open.

A T30 finish at the Masters was as good as it got for the 35-year-old, who will be looking to improve when the new season rolls around.

Only 18 months ago, Fowler was leading the US Open at LACC and firmly on course to win his first major championship title.

This week’s Shriners is a good chance for Fowler to get back into the winner’s circle for the first time since the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

TPC Summerlin’s favourable set-up, coupled with a weaker field, means the American has a genuine chance of ending the fall stretch on a high.
