Jason Day has come roaring back to form at The Travelers Championship to put himself just a shot off the leaders in Connecticut.

Day is just one back of the trio of Scottie Scheffler, Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Thomas and it’s set to be an exciting weekend for the PGA Tour.

Day hasn’t won a PGA Tour event since the Byron Nelson in 2023. In fact, he’s won just three times in the last six years, and has to go back to 2015 for his last major success.

Now though, the Australian is well within striking distance and after Patrick Cantlay praised the tournament, Day has now had his say on proceedings.

Jason Day agrees with Patrick Cantlay about The Travelers Championship

With this being the final signature event of the season, it seems the best in the world are not only keen to turn up, but also show their mettle.

With such a stacked leaderboard of major winners right at the top, it promises to be an enthralling weekend.

Indeed, backing up Cantlay’s earlier comments, Day has lavished praise on the tournament.

“No, I didn’t. I took a day off,” Day said of his time after the US Open. “But it’s difficult because I know that — this is a hard — I don’t want to miss this event because I absolutely love this event. I think Travelers does a fantastic job. People here in Cromwell, or Connecticut, at least, they enjoy having the tournament here,” Day said.

“I think it goes both ways. I think the fans and even the players don’t realize how good we have it here. I think everyone is just really happy that the tournament is here, and I think we take it for granted sometimes that Travelers — they do put a great tournament on. It’s a great golf course, great facility.

“When you’re coming out of a U.S. Open, you kind of — I typically would take the week off, so it was very difficult for me to miss this one. And mind you, with some injuries I’ve had, I’ve missed two Signature Events, and I’m a little behind the — this is my 12th event for the year. So it’s kind of difficult. I’m a little bit in catch-up mode right now, so I’ve got to try and play as much as I can.”

Jason Day’s PGA Tour career in numbers

Jason Day is a former world number one and is one of the best golfers of his generation.

Despite the fact he hasn’t won for some time, or consistently anyway, he remains a class act and a player who very much appeals to the masses.

In terms of his career, he can go into retirement when he decides to with his head held more than high.

A major win, a BMW Championship, A Players Championship and 11 more wins to go alongside on the PGA Tour mean Day has more than produced over his career.

With such hefty competition for this weekend, it would be great to see Day stick around and battle it out on Sunday.
