There will be some big questions being asked by the PGA Tour, their sponsors and the fans right now after what Rickie Fowler has just done.
Fowler‘s fall from grace on the PGA Tour over the past few years has been a drastic one.
He has just one win to his name since February 2019, and that’s simply not good enough for a player of his calibre.
There have actually been signs this season that the 36-year-old is returning to somewhere near his best.
Fowler was in contention to win at the Charles Schwab Challenge back in May, and he followed that up with a strong showing at Muirfield Village.

In fact, Fowler qualified for the British Open with his finish at the Memorial Tournament, and many thought at the time that would propel him on to big things.
However, he hasn’t played since the Memorial, and he was brought back down to earth with a bang at the Travelers Championship on Friday.
Rickie Fowler has done the PGA Tour and Signature Events no favours
Fowler received a sponsor’s exemption to play at TPC River Highlands this week.
The virtue behind giving players exemptions for limited field events with no cuts is questionable to say the least.
And Fowler’s performance at the Travelers Championship has shone the spotlight squarely on the PGA Tour yet again.
The six-time PGA Tour winner carded a round of seven-over par 77 on Friday, and is currently sitting in 68th position out of 70 players.
There are players out there who were far more deserving than Fowler of a spot this week.

Now, the PGA Tour did not invite Fowler to play at TPC River Highlands – the sponsors of the event did.
However, they do have the power to change the way that things are done, and they absolutely have to address the issues regarding the sponsors’ invites for Signature Events moving forward into 2026.
Fowler’s second round at the Travelers Championship on Friday has given the PGA Tour and their sponsors a real headache.
Rickie Fowler’s 2025 PGA Tour results
Fowler has made plenty of cuts so far this season, but he has just one top-10 to his name.
Here are his results in 2025:
| PGA Tour | Fowler’s results |
| Events played | 13 |
| Wins | 0 |
| Top-10s | 1 |
| Top-25s | 1 |
| Cuts missed | 1 |
| Withdrawals | 1 |
The man from Murrieta, California, needs to reset somehow, and remember the way that he used to play.
One thing’s for sure, Fowler won’t be getting invites to many more Signature Events on the PGA Tour if he continues to play like he did at the Travelers Championship on Friday.
