Jason Day is set to compete at the John Deere Classic for the first time since 2011 – and the Aussie has shared a change he’s recently made to his irons that has really helped him.

It’s been a steady season for the 36-year-old, who currently sits 28th in the FedEx Cup standings after finishing in the top ten four times.

Day’s most recent success came at the Wells Fargo Championship, where he finished tied for fourth on six under.

Clearly, the Aussie isn’t quite the same player who was among the world’s best back in 2015.

Nevertheless, Day feels that his game is in a good place.

Speaking ahead of this week’s John Deere Classic, Day revealed that he has changed the shafts on his irons, which is an alteration the Aussie feels has benefitted him.

“I’ve got a little bit more control with my irons,” he explained.

“I changed the shaft in my irons, and I feel like that’s given me a little bit more playability regarding hitting draws or fades.

“Working trajectories and spin. So when I can do that, I feel like I have a lot more shots in the bag. I got more opportunities to hit certain shots to certain pins. The short game is good, the driving is good, and I feel pretty good about that.”

John Deere Classic kickstarts a busy schedule

With the Scottish Open and Open Championship following the John Deere Classic, the relentless PGA Tour schedule is well and truly back in full swing.

Many players, rightfully, took a watching berth for last week’s Rocket Mortgage at Detroit Golf Club.

The likes of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are all resting up ahead of the final major championship and the Olympic golf event at Le Golf National in Paris.

After July’s action concludes, the PGA Tour playoffs kick-off, with the FedEx Cup’s top 70 qualifying for the St. Jude Championship.
