Scottie Scheffler has been the undisputed dominant force in world golf over the past few years.
However, Scheffler has reached a whole new level entirely since March 2024, winning 12 PGA Tour events including three majors, a Hero World Challenge title and an Olympic gold medal in just 17 months.
Scheffler’s improved putting saw him reach new heights in 2025 and he will be looking to improve even further still ahead of the 2026 season.
However, that will be incredibly difficult to do, given the quality of his golf right now.
Scheffler tied the PGA Tour record for most rounds in 60s on Sunday at the Tour Championship, with 21 to his name now, and he will have a chance to beat that when he tees it up at the Procore Championship in Napa in a couple of weeks’ time.
Will his dominance end any time soon though? For that to happen, one of his rivals will have to make vast improvements or he will have to regress.
Jaime Diaz predicts when Scottie Scheffler’s decline will start
Highly-revered golf journalist Jaime Diaz has delivered a really interesting take on Scheffler.
While Diaz praised the world number one for his incredible work ethic, he also suggested that won’t last forever.

When speaking on The Indo Sport Podcast, Diaz opened up on why he believes the man from Dallas, Texas, will naturally slow down soon.
The golf journalist said: “He’s innately competitive, he can’t help it. So he’s wired to really compete hard and I think he knows he has a gift and he wants to honour that.
“I think he wants to honour what’s been given to him and not have second thoughts later that he didn’t get the most of that.
“These are all just theoretical opinions of mine. I think Scottie is very well balanced but at some point, something will grab him and he will decline in some sort of way.
“It could be injury, he’s going to probably have more children and players have had that conflict before, that could have an effect.
“I don’t see him grinding hard for 10 years, put it that way. I think he can go pretty hard for three or four more years before he declines.“
Scottie Scheffler is still improving and the stats prove it
Scheffler is very much still on an upward trajectory.
Here are his PGA Tour stats from the past four seasons compared:
| Stats | 2021-22 rank | 2022-23 rank | 2024 rank | 2025 rank |
| Off the tee | 37th | 1st | 2nd | 1st |
| Approach | 4th | 1st | 1st | 1st |
| Around the green | 25th | 5th | 17th | 15th |
| Scrambling | 85th | 10th | 5th | 1st |
| Putting | 58th | 162nd | 77th | 20th |
| Total | 5th | 1st | 1st | 1st |
Quite how Scheffler can improve on what he has achieved over the past 17 months really is anybody’s guess.
He could climb up the putting stats and become a top-five putter on the PGA Tour. Then it would very much be game over for everyone else.
The most interesting thing will be to see how long he maintains his current focus and work ethic moving forward.
I have to say, I think Scheffler is built differently to most and I don’t agree with Diaz’s take that he will slow down in three or four years’ time one little bit.
The world number one could easily dominate the professional game for the next decade but only time will tell in that regard.
