Eddie Pepperell has expressed his dismay at seeing Eric Cole handed the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award over Ludvig Aberg.

Cole was given the award, despite being 35, after enjoying a fine debut season on the PGA Tour which included seven top ten finishes and a runner-up throughout the year.

Cole’s age was as big a talking point as anything, almost overshadowing his excellent on-course performance.

Of course, many expected Ludvig Aberg to take the title this year. The Swede had a memorable 2023, winning the RSM Classic in November, The Omega European Masters in September, while also playing a key role in Europe’s Ryder Cup win in Rome.

And speaking on The Chipping Forecast podcast, golfer Eddie Pepperell has shared his dismay at Aberg being ignored.

Eddie Pepperell shocked by Ludvig Aberg’s Rookie of the Year omission

Speaking about the decision to give Cole the award for 2023, Pepperell admitted he felt the PGA Tour had made a big mistake in not giving the trophy to Aberg.

“Privately, I kept my thoughts private for once. But yeah, I was so disappointed. What are the PGA Tour playing at? I mean it’s an outrage, to be honest. Scottie Scheffler ahead of Hovland or Rahm is debatable but to not give Ludvig an award is just ridiculous,” Pepperell said.

Of course, Pepperell is never one to hold back in his opinion. The Englishman recently commented on the same pod about Rory McIlroy’s latest opinions on LIV and much more.

As we know, Aberg is being tipped to be one of the big players in 2024. The 24-year-old has recently been speaking himself about how life on tour is different to the amateur game, while his good friend Vincent Norrman also praised Aberg for how he handles himself on and off the course.
