Matt Kuchar made the bizarre decision to quit on the 18th hole in his final round at the Wyndham Championship.

Kuchar labelled the Wyndham Championship course ‘nasty’ despite leading the way heading into the final 36 holes.

The American carded back-to-back rounds of 64 to put himself in contention for the trophy at the Wyndham Championship.

But he faded away with a third round 70, while he was one over for round four before refusing to finish the 18th hole.

Kuchar hit his final tee shot at Sedgefield Country Club before walking off due to bad light, despite his two playing partners finishing the hole.

How much money is on the line for Matt Kuchar after his Wyndham Championship refusal?

He was not in contention to win the event in North Carolina, where Aaron Rai emerged victorious, while he is also not in with a chance of making the FedExCup Playoffs.

The American needed a win at the Wyndham Championship to extend his PGA Tour season, having been the only player to qualify for every edition of the FedExCup Playoffs.

CBS journalist Kyle Porter has now revealed how much money is on the line for Kuchar, who currently sits T12 on 11 under.

“The difference between a 10-way for 12th and a seven-way tie for 21st is ~$58,000 (£45,000),” Porter wrote on X.

“Matt Kuchar has made $59.8million in his career. Cannot believe I’m typing any of these words.”

Aaron Rai wins first PGA Tour title as Matt Kuchar fades away

The decision from Kuchar was legal, but has caused plenty of confusion given his inability to make the FedExCup playoffs.

Impressively, the veteran has been a regular since their launch in 2007, and he had a great chance of keeping that fine record alive at Sedgefield.

But he tumbled down the standings over the final 36 holes, with Rai finishing on 18 under to claim his first PGA Tour title.

Matt Fitzpatrick has reacted to Rai’s Wyndham Championship win, with the latter having stormed up the leaderboard with a final round 64.

Kuchar meanwhile plans to return to Sedgefield to finish his final hole, in what is seemingly a bid to increase his prize money.
