While stances have softened significantly towards LIV Golf since its formation in 2022, it does appear incredibly likely that the Saudi-backed league will continue largely in its own lane in 2025 with no agreement between the various tours in sight.

Some would have hoped that Jay Monahan and Yasir Al-Rumayyan playing together at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship would have proved to have been a positive sign. It is well over a year since the framework agreement was announced. Meanwhile, there are other indications that the players are ready for a resolution, with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler set to face Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in December.

And perhaps an agreement has moved a small step closer this week. The Sports Business Journal reported that LIV Golf are looking for a new CEO, with Greg Norman set to move into a different role with the company.

What role Greg Norman looks set to now take on with LIV Golf

Norman was very much the disruptor-in-chief when LIV was getting going – in an approach that did not appear to impress some of those on the PGA Tour. Tiger Woods said in 2022 that Norman needed to go before an agreement could be reached.

Speaking on the Golf Channel Podcast, Rex Hoggard shared what he has been told about the role Norman is likely to have once PIF find a new CEO.

“I called a source at LIV Golf and the way this was described to me was essentially Greg would become the commissioner of the tour itself and then there would be a CEO, who is more qualified to sit into these negotiations for a new media rights deal and whatever corporate sponsorship they’re trying to obtain going forward,” he said.

“I think that’s a good move on their part, and my understanding is that Greg’s completely on board. I’m sure that he’d much rather just deal with the tournaments and the players and trying to run a tour than all of the difficult parts of trying to get a business up and running from the ground floor.”

What LIV Golf have confirmed ahead of the 2025 season

LIV Golf is yet to confirm the full calendar ahead of 2025, but they have announced the first four events of the new season.

Riyadh will host the opening event in early February. It is the first time that the capital of Saudi Arabia has hosted a LIV event. The league then heads to Adelaide the following week.

LIV returns to Asia in March, with Hong Kong being followed by Singapore.

Many of the teams are yet to be finalised, so Norman is not the only figure at LIV set to find himself in a new role in the coming months.
