Justin Thomas is back working on his game after nearly returning to the winner’s circle at the ZOZO Championship in Japan.

Colombian Nico Echavarria pipped Thomas to the title at Accordia Narashino Country Club, extending American’s two-year winless run.

Thomas has been working hard behind the scenes lately, and the 31-year-old finally looks like he’s back to his brilliant best. During the 2024 season, Thomas was plagued by inconsistency, with red-hot rounds regularly followed by sub-par golf.

The American’s driving, in particular, was impressive in Japan, and Thomas picked up over 2.5 strokes on the field. Increasing his distance appears to be at the forefront of Thomas’ mind, and the 31-year-old posted some impressive numbers on his Instagram.

Like many golfers, Thomas is extremely active on Instagram, and the American has delivered another update on his activities since the ZOZO Championship.

The two-time major winner posted several videos of his swing and an image of his launch monitor, which delivered some impressive driving statistics.

Thomas was carrying his drives well over 327 yards, with an average total distance of 343 yards. The American’s 2024 average on the PGA Tour was 309 yards.

Thomas also clocked a club head speed of 124.5mph and a ball speed of 185mph, which is right up there with the fastest in the sport. The American also wrote under his post, “Some golf stuff lately.”

Given the work going on behind the scenes and his recent performance at the ZOZO, Thomas could well be one to watch heading into the 2025 season. There’s no doubt that professional golf would be a better place if he were back competing regularly with the best players in the world.

What Justin Thomas is doing to improve his driving

Speaking after the ZOZO Championship, Thomas shed a little bit more light on what he’s been doing to improve his driving after struggling for large periods in 2024.

“It kind of depends on what I’m going through swing-wise. For me, when I get off, I get a little too long, so keeping my length a little shorter, compacted,” Thomas explained.

“There are a couple of different ways I try to think of that, whether it’s not letting my arms get past my body, getting my right hand as far from my body as possible, or keeping my arms straight,” he said.

“I kind of have a small bag of thoughts that generate the same thing. And lately, it’s been trying to keep feeling like my right hand is just far from my body and my head. It’s weird, but it works for me.”
