Wesley Bryan has handed his hopes of retaining his PGA Tour card a massive boost, after the 2017 RBC Heritage champion tied the course record during the third round at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship on Saturday.

Wesley Bryan went into the week outside of the top 125 places on the FedEx Cup points list. And he may have expected to make little progress after opening up his Butterfield Bermuda Championship performance with rounds of 67 and 72. He only made the cut by two shots.

However, he brought himself right back into contention on moving day. The 34-year-old shot 61 to move himself up to fourth ahead of the final round.

Bryan went out in 29 after making four birdies and an eagle. And he made another two birdies and another eagle on his back nine to tie the course record at Port Royal Golf Course.

Plenty of fans were annoyed after Bryan’s round. He is one of the biggest names in the field this week due to the size of his YouTube channel which he stars on alongside his brother George – who did miss the cut in Bermuda.

And yet, there was barely any coverage of Bryan’s historic round throughout the day.

One of those who sent Bryan a message on social media following the round was fellow YouTuber Grant Horvat…

The PGA Tour yet to fully grasp how influential YouTube golf is proving to be

Bryan is such an interesting case study for the PGA Tour. His fans could probably tell you a lot more about what he has done on YouTube than on tour this year. And Bryan himself has admitted that he enjoys everything he is doing on YouTube more than being on the PGA Tour.

The tour which really leans into the amount of interest coming from YouTube golf is going to attract a surprisingly large audience. The PGA Tour caught a glimpse of that with the Creator Classic. And the Creator Classic did better numbers than LIV Golf Greenbrier.

It was certainly a missed opportunity to not show more of what Bryan was doing on Saturday. But they may get plenty of chances to put that right, with Bryan projected to move himself back inside the top 125 this week.
