The inaugural Creator Classic proved successful as YouTube’s best content creators battled it out on East Lake’s brand-new back nine.

Former PGA Tour China professional Luke Kwon was victorious after beating Wesley Bryan, Roger Steele and Sean Walsh in a playoff on the famous 18th.

Overall, the event was positive, and the YouTubers proved Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Aberg wrong after the PGA Tour stars predicted high scoring at East Lake.

What’s more, Steele produced driving statistics similar to Bryson DeChambeau, as the content creators showed off their talents in Atlanta.

But did the event actually appear as popular? Here, The Golfing Gazette takes a look at the viewing figures.

Creator Classic v LIV Golf: How many people watched

According to My Golf Spy’s senior editor, Sean Fairholm, The Creator Classic broke 188,000 live viewers on YouTube. Furthermore, there was an audience watching on ESPN+ and those on demand around the world.

Fairholm also compared the figures to LIV Golf’s Greenbrier event, where Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm battled it out in a playoff.

LIV Golf Greenbrier drew 168,000 viewers on YouTube for the playoffs. Fairholm went on to suggest that YouTube golfers are “drawing a bigger audience” than the major champions – but this is perhaps slightly disingenuous.

LIV Golf app doesn’t track live viewers

When analysing LIV Golf’s numbers, there are several other broadcast streams which should have been added to the breakaway league’s overall total.

LIV Golf’s app allows fans to watch events, but the figures remain untracked. Therefore, this figure should be added to LIV’s viewing figures.

Furthermore, global broadcasters, including CW, should be considered.

The Creator Classic was undoubtedly a success, but comparing a completely unique event to LIV and then making brash assumptions feels a bit ill-thought-out.
