Rickie Fowler is firmly in contention heading into the final round of the Cognizant Classic at PGA National.

The American is currently tied for sixth at 13 under after shooting a third-round 68. The 36-year-old made birdies on the third, sixth and eighth before picking up two more shots on the back nine.

Fowler needs a positive finish this week to book his spot in the Arnold Palmer Invitational after he and Jordan Spieth were left out of the field.

Fowler accepts the decision and acknowledges that his absence from the Arnold Palmer Invitational field is his own fault.

A win at PGA National would secure the American’s spot in the Bay Hill event, and it’s clear the stakes are high for Fowler.

Cognizant Classic leaderboard

Fowler will need to produce an impressive final round to win the Cognizant Classic and qualify for the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Jake Knapp, fresh off shooting a first-round 59, is leading the tournament. Knapp is 16 under and one shot clear of in-form Michael Kim.

Kim is currently playing the best golf of his career and finished in the top 15 in his last three PGA Tour events. The 31-year-old’s best performance came at the WM Phoenix Open, where he ended the week in a tie for second.

US Presidents Cup star Russell Henley (14 under) is also in contention after shooting a third-round 66 at PGA National.
