LIV Golf might be trying to push itself around the world of golf but right now, golf fans are still finding things to criticise them for and this week’s event in South Korea is no different it seems.

The PIF-backed tour has had its critics since it came along to disrupt the golf world but by the same token, it has won praise for some of its innovation and the fact it very much is a global tour.

Right now, the LIV players are in Korea as they look to keep ‘growing the game’ in the Far East.

However, while the event itself is going along nicely and some big names are atop the leaderboard once again, they are once again coming under fire from golf fans.

And this time, it’s all to do with the actual viewing experience for those trying to tune in at home.

Golf fans criticise LIV Golf once again as South Korea event progresses

As golf fans, we are used to there being an element of delay in the coverage we watch, whether that be DP World Tour or PGA Tour.

However, what is not ideal for any viewer at home is seeing the leaderboard move before you’ve even seen the shot of the player moving, before it then cuts back to show you said shot while you effectively already know what happens.

Worryingly for LIV Golf, this is what is happening over in Korea and over on social media, fans are not happy.

After golf journalist Brian Kirschner picked up on the issue calling it his ‘biggest gripe’, a number of fans laid into LIV with the same opinion.

One fan claimed it completely spoiled the experiece.

“it’s a spoiler almost every time and it p—- me off. I want to see if the guy makes the putt or not (usually when they show you the putt it’s the guy making it)”

While another fan went further, suggesting it made the viewing experience lack the realism golf needs.

“Indeed, the way of broadcasting the list first and then adding footage interrupted the rhythm of the game and made the audience lack a sense of reality. I still prefer to present the process of each shot in sequence, which is the charm of golf.”

However, it’s not just the leaderboard getting hammer, as some pointed out it was just one of a number of annoyances with LIV.

“The leaderboard is one of many for me. Total joke form top to bottom‘ one fan wrote, while another said “I agree.  Some things need to be cleaned up.  The left stack needs to honestly be blown up.”

Carrying on the conversation, a Formula One fan jumped in as well and offered their take, suggesting it simply does not work for golf.

“I have never watched LIV, but as an F1 fan that looks like it was deeply inspired by their vertical graphic. It is amazing for a sport that is obviously about real time speed and data. Not so sure that is necessary for a game like golf.”

While finally, another golf lover claimed that the leaderboard issues were so bad, it stopped them from watching completely.

“This was the one single reason why I stopped watching, seems insane that they maintain it”

Yet more problems for LIV Golf to sort out

With LIV not doing itself any favours at times, it remains to be seen if this is something they look at.

Cosmetics for the at home viewer are really important and evolve over time but it must be said, the LIV leaderboard can not only be confusing but also, as pointed out here, pretty disappointing.

Yet again, it leaves the powers that be at LIV facing yet another challenge.

And with Rory McIlroy suggesting no deal with LIV might actually be needed, it looks like the PIF and those in charge have got some big decisions to make all around in the coming years.
