Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson are two of the most successful golfers to have ever played the game.
Spieth has three major titles to his name, whilst Mickelson has stacked up six of golf’s premier trophies.
Spieth has raved about Mickelson’s ability in the past, even comparing him to Scottie Scheffler recently.
Back in May 2022, Spieth also shared his sadness that Mickelson was not able to defend his PGA Championship title, due to his break from the game at the time.

The two players have been on the same Ryder Cup teams together on numerous occasions and they always seemed to be extremely close with each other when playing together on the PGA Tour.
However, years ago, it seems like Spieth wasn’t a huge fan of the 54-year-old six-time major champion.
Jordan Spieth explained why ‘he didn’t care that much’ for Phil Mickelson
Spieth was a big deal before he even joined the PGA Tour.
He was the number one amateur in the world, after winning two US Junior Amateur titles.
So when he went to watch tour events as a young kid, many of the professionals playing in the tournaments knew who he was.
The 31-year-old lifted the lid on something that happened when he was a teenager that made him ‘not care’ for Mickelson for quite a long time.
Spieth said, “There was a time that I was out, I think at the Byron Nelson with my dad and Phil Mickelson and Davis Love III were on the putting green. And I was yelling at them, as I now get annoyed while I’m practicing when I’m getting yelled at, and they were talking and they said, ‘One second’.

“And when they finished, Phil was pulled off in a different direction and Davis came and signed for me. And I thought for the longest time that Phil just blew me off. And Davis was the nicest guy. And Phil, I didn’t care for as much for a little while because of that.“
Spieth then shared Mickelson’s cheeky response when he told him what happened years later, “I knew who you were, and I didn’t want to go over there and sign it.”
That response is classic Mickelson, but it’s quite clear that he would have said it in jest.
Can Spieth match Mickelson’s PGA Tour record?
Spieth and Mickelson are both hugely popular amongst golf fans because they’re so relatable.
Their playing styles are very similar in that they both seem to thrive when presented with a difficult challenge.
How do their records stack up alongside one another though?
| PGA Tour stats | Phil Mickelson | Jordan Spieth |
| Tournaments played | 667 | 290 |
| Wins | 45 | 13 |
| Top 5’s | 138 | 55 |
| Top10’s | 198 | 91 |
| Cuts made | 537 | 234 |
Spieth clearly still has a long way to go before he even gets close to emultating what Mickelson has achieved in the game.
First and foremost he needs to rediscover some of his best form, because his game is quite simply nowhere near where it needs to be right now.
