Tiger Woods might be one of the best to ever swing a golf club but when it comes to his launch of his Sun Day Red brand, things haven’t quite gone so smoothly.

Woods branched out of his lucrative long-term deal with Nike to launch the the Sun Day Red brand.

However, with high pricing and a lack of interest from plenty of golf fans, it seems Tiger has a lot of work to do to get the brand really moving.

Indeed, it was only recently that golf fans slammed a decision to from Tiger and Sun Day Red to open a store at the historic Pebble Beach course.

Overall, then, it seems like the brand is just not taking off as TaylorMade and Tiger would have liked and over this weekend, it seems they’ve scored yet another own goal.

Over on the Sun Day Red website, a ‘limited edition’ ball marker has just dropped to purchase.

Remarkably, in fitting with the rest of the Sun Day Red gear, the marker comes at a staggering cost of $50.

While it comes in it’s own SDR pouch and looks smart enough, the price of the item has once again caught the golfing world’s eye.

And over on social media, fans are once again slamming Tiger and his new brand.

Golf fans shocked at Tiger Woods and Sun Day Red’s $50 ball marker

$50 is a huge price to pay for most people in the world on any sort of sporting equipment, never mind just a ball marker.

Of course, we know golf is an expensive sport at times and there’ll be people out there who do fancy grabbing themselves a limited edition token for 50 bucks.

However, on X, it seems the decision has gone down like a lead balloon among the golfing world.

One golf fan, @robmcthai, suggested the marketing strategy might work, but still called for more from $50.

“The marketing concept of making it expensive so people want it to show wealth is proven but surely needs more than this. Still only needs 1 buyer and they’ve paid for production of 1000, maybe more”

While @louisvz63 suggested only one group of people will be buying them…

“The brainless?”

@niceupandown one made a nod to Game of Thrones in asking if they were made of a rare – mythical – material.

“If these are made from Valyrian steel, than sure.”

While another avid golf fan, @dwainkinghorn, claimed he’s just fine with his current quarters from his pocket!

“A quarter works great for me. Hard pass on this one.”

Sun Day Red just not doing it yet for the average golfer

Yet again, then, it looks like Tiger Woods has scored a bit of an own goal and the longer Sun Day Red goes on getting abuse online, the more damage it will do to his brand.

Tiger might be involved in a potential deal with LIV and the PGA Tour, but in terms of his new brand, it’s just not going as many suspected it might.

Yes, there’ll be a niche audience somewhere who laps this sort of stuff up. But for the average golfer, prices of $50 for a ball marker are just obscene.

Time will tell, but for now, Sun Day Red is simply not taking off among the masses in golf.
