With LIV Golf and the PGA Tour very much remaining separate entities for the time being, it seems a distant dream to see some of the top players back on the PGA side.

As we know, we only get to catch a glimpse of the big stars from LIV in majors, with Augusta the next chance to see the LIV stars pit their wits against the best from the PGA side of things.

Quite what the future holds, remains to be seen as the PIF and SSG/PGA continue to discuss options.

However, a recent comment from Fred Couples on Brooks Koepka wanting to return to the PGA Tour caught plenty of media attention.

And with LIV playing in Singapore this weekend, Koepka has been asked about those comments.

Brooks Koepka responds to comments from Fred Couples about PGA Tour return

Koepka was doing his media duties for the LIV event when the question cropped up about Couples’ comments.

And while the American acknowledged he’d spoken to Couples, he didn’t exactly commit to being a lifelong LIV player.

“Yeah, Fred texted me after, I guess, the comments came out. I don’t know when it was. Sometime last week. Yeah, everybody seems to have their own opinion and no one asks me,” Koepka said.

“I talked to Fred quite a bit, but we don’t go too much into detail about what’s going on. Like I’ve said before, I’m not in those rooms. I’ve got a contract obligation out here to fulfil, and then we’ll see what happens.

“I don’t know where I’m going, so I don’t know how everybody else does. Right now I’m just focused on how do I play better, how do I play better in the majors, how does this team win, and then we’ll figure out next year and how to play better again. It’s the same thing. It’s just a revolving cycle. “I’ve got nothing. Everybody else seems to know more than I do.”

And with suggestions his LIV contract might be up this year, golf fans on social media are now convinced that Koepka wants out now he’s spoken about it.

Golf fans think Brooks Koepka wants PGA Tour return after latest interview

As always on social media, big comments like this are picked up on immediately by the golf community and this time, it seems fans are convinced Koepka wants to leave LIV.

However, the reaction to him potentially going has been mixed to say the least.

One fan lamented Koepka’s attitude in general, calling for him to leave LIV.

“I actually think he needs to p— or get off the post with LIV and the team If he doesn’t want to play after the contract ends then he should leave I think his attitude with the team has been average”

While another claimed that Jon Rahm would also follow Koepka.

“He gone. Brooks, Rahm they want back to the PGA Tour.”

Of course, the situation is tricky and whether they automatically get their PGA Tour cards back is another question, something one fan pointed out.

“The PGAT needs to have a policy on how to come back, are they going to recruit him or punish him, and whatever they do will set a precedent. In my opinion if they are smart they have zero “punishment” in either fines or time or he will just stay.”

Another has suggested the move might actually help LIV recruit others.

“Sounds like he will be leaving. I‘m not sure that would hurt the team this much. Sure it’s a big name, but that free’s up money for others… While others shine in the team format and embrace it, he seems to be more focused on himself and not that into the team spirit of others”

While another suggested it was pretty obvious what Koepka was hinting at.

“Woah. That’s pretty easy to read between the lines. – I cant tell everyone how much I want to leave this stupid league until my contracts up then ill be off to pgat and can laugh at all the others stuck in this dumb league.”

And finally, another golf fan suggested that missing home comforts might now be catching up with the five-time major winner.

“Sounds like a guy who wants to play some real golf and go back to the PGAT. Who would want to travel around the world to play when they can stay home and do the same?”

Either way, if his contract is up this year, it will be an intriguing prospect to see what actually happens and if in fact LIV decide they want to keep one of their main players.
