There’s a lot to be said for the current state of the game of golf as LIV Golf and the PGA Tour continue to operate under separate entities with no agreement in place.

Both tours have a number of world-renowned stars on their books at the moment and dream for many is to see them all re-united in some way.

Of course, LIV have took some star names like Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka from the PGA Tour. And up until now, there’s no signs of any of those players wanting a return to the PGA side of things.

However, according to Fred Couples, that’s not entirely true and he’s revealed that Brooks Koepka has actually suggested to him privately that he’d like a return to the PGA Tour.

Fred Couples reveals Brooks Koepka’s stance on PGA Tour return

In quotes provided by Golfweek, Couples admitted to having a good relationship with Koepka.

And in doing so, he revealed that the five-time major champion is wanting to play on the PGA Tour again.

“I talked to Brooks Koepka all the time. I love Brooks Koepka, and I’m not going to say anything extra except I talked to him all the time,” Couples said.

“He wants to come back. I will say that I believe he really wants to come back and play the Tour. But for me personally, there are a lot of guys that are going to be pushed out…I don’t know how you get an elevated event with 72 people and bring seven superstars in. What do you tell those other seven? Bye-bye.”

“I want to say Jon Rahm is the last guy to leave here, maybe there’s been one or two more.”

Laurie Canter sets benchmark for LIV players returning to PGA Tour

While the biggest names like Koepka, DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson are all earning a hefty sum over on the LIV tour, some players aren’t quite as high up the pay scale.

However, one player who’s represented the LIV Golf side of things is Laurie Canter. And just this weekend, the Englishman laid the groundwork for players with LIV backgrounds to make PGA Tour returns.

PlayerEarnings
1. Jon Rahm$390m
2. Phil Mickelson$205m
3. Dustin Johnson$186m
4. Brooks Koepka$120m
5. Cam Smith$110m
6. Bryson DeChambeau$107m
7. Sergio Garcia$105m
8. Patrick Reed$90m
9. Bubba Watson$88m
10. Tyrrell Hatton$86m

Canter last played in a LIV event more than a year ago, meaning he has served any potential suspension from PGA Tour events and after finishing runner-up in South Africa this weekend, he’s moved into the OWGR top 50 to automatically qualify for The Players Championship.

Should Canter do well at TPC Sawgrass and then earn a spot in the Masters, it might make more LIV players think about their futures and look at ways of getting back involved on the PGA side of things.
