Tiger Woods has just announced that he has suffered an Achilles injury and golf fans around the world are extremely disappointed.

Woods had been playing regularly in the inaugural season of TGL alongside Max Homa, Tom Kim and Kevin Kisner and some thought he would even compete at the Players Championship.

The 49-year-old had decided not to play at TPC Sawgrass anyway, but this latest news now means that he will miss plenty more tournaments going forward.

Unfortunately, nobody is shocked to read that Woods is injured again. However, it’s still upsetting for golf fans and will continue to be until the day he retires.

Golf fans react to Tiger Woods’ Achilles injury

Woods released the following statement on X on Monday, 11 March: “As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured.

“This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon. “The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” added Dr. Stucken.

“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.”

Many fans were quick to send messages of support to the 15-time major champion, while others had an unfortunate piece of advice.

One wrote: “It’s not our place to tell him what to do, however, I hope enough is enough. Body has been through a lot. Enjoy your kids. We will cherish all 82 of the wins, and in a lot of eyes, he is the greatest to ever touch a club.”

“Might be time to put it down. Flourishing talent within Charlie Woods’ game, might be time to become full time coach for him. I understand the competitive juices though,” another said.

A fan said: “Feel bad for Tiger, but this should mark the end for him. As great as he was, he’ll never break Jack’s record. It’s incredible that he won’t do it given how good he was. Nobody to blame but himself.”

“Man, it’s just not in his cards to return to golf. The universe has made that clear,” one wrote.

Tiger Woods will now miss the Masters through injury

Woods did not give an estimate on how long his recovery will take, but it’s safe to say that he will be out for several months. Ruptured Achilles are one of the worst injuries that an athlete can suffer.

This means that he will definitely miss the Masters at Augusta National next month, which is a real blow for not only himself but the tournament as a whole.

There are also the small matters of Jack Nicklaus’ major record (18) and the more realistic target of beating Sam Snead’s PGA Tour victories (82).

It’s a real shame that Woods will not have the opportunity to achieve either of those in the foreseeable future – or probably ever, in brutal honesty.
