Jordan Spieth is still one of the biggest draws in golf when it comes to getting eyes on the game and his surprised addition to next week’s Cognizant Classic will be seen as a big boost for the TOUR.

Spieth confirmed for the Cognizant over the weekend in what was a surprise move in the main.

Spieth had complained of his wrist injury bothering him again after The Genesis last week and there was a feeling among the golfing world that we’d next see him in action at the Arnold Palmer in two weeks’ time.

However, with Spieth clearly looking to get himself into good form, the American has taken the decision to add himself to the field in the hope of playing to a similar level he did at the WM Open a few weeks back.

Of course, for players like Spieth – who have tumbled down the rankings in recent years – there is the added pressure of 2025 being a Ryder Cup year.

Spieth has been a part of the last five Ryder Cup teams for Team USA but has little chance as it stands of being selected as an automatic choice for Keegan Bradley’s team.

However, with his addition to the Cognizant Classic, golf fans in the US now seem convinced that Spieth is positioning himself as best as possible to be considered by Bradley and his vice-captains.

Golf fans clear on Jordan Spieth’s motivation as he commits to the Cognizant Classic

As always on social media, narratives are quickly spun and when it comes to Jordan Spieth, it seems like the US golf fans have it all worked out.

Over on X, a number of fans are convinced that Spieth is pushing for a Ryder Cup slot and over the year, feel he’ll turn up to even more events.

One US golf fan made that exact point, suggesting more American players will play some of the smaller events this year.

“It’s a Ryder Cup year. You’ll see a lot of the US hopefuls playing more often over the coming months, trying to get themselves that automatic spot”

While another backed Spieth to sneak his way into the team.

“If he keeps up his recent play, he’ll end up Top 10 in FedEx Cup pts and surely land a spot on the Ryder a cup team.”

That theme continued on, as one fan suggested Team USA need their very best to compete with Europe.

“Respect. Get out there and earn that Ryder Cup spot. Europe is gonna bring some heat.”

With another suggesting that Spieth knows deep down that he’ll have to earn his spot.

“Spieth knows he’s not gonna get a free pass in the Ryder Cup like Justin Thomas did.”

Going away from the Ryder Cup conversation, one fan simply suggested that Spieth needed to get his wrist going before the big events.

“He needs reps to test his wrist. Gotta see how it’s going to hold up heading into the meaty part of the season”

Finally, another golf lover admitted their respect for Spieth and called on others to follow his lead.

“That’s awesome. Hoping more guys make the change as well. Usually a poor showing amongst the top guys. Crazy considering they all live here”

Where Jordan Spieth sits in the current Team USA Ryder Cup rankings

While players like Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are certainties to be included, there’s a bit more of a scrap for the rest of the spots on Keegan Bradley’s squad.

At the moment, Jordan Spieth has a lot of work to do to get himself into contention. The American sits down in 40th, some way off the top six and even the top 12 players in the American rankings.

Spieth, then, has simply got to pick up some good results in a number of tournaments, with big performances in the majors and signature events being key.

Still, if he can win or do well at the Cognizant as well, then that will help him as well.
