With the BMW PGA Championship set to get underway tomorrow, the yearly pro-am at Wentworth gives us golf fans the chance to see some more unusual faces on the course.
The pro-am brings together celebrities and guests from all walks of life to enjoy a round with one of the professionals playing the event.
Of course, they don’t come much bigger than Rory McIlroy in golf and he’s been teeing it up with former cricketer Stuart Broad and ex-Real Madrid footballer, Gareth Bale, today.

McIlroy, as we know, is one of the most recognisable names and faces in the world of sport and he can’t ever go too far without being recognised.

Still, there are those in other entertainment spheres who might be even more recognisable than Rory.
One of those is English actor Tom Holland, who is more commonly know to a lot of people as Marvel’s favourite web-slinging super-hero, Spider-Man.
Holland is at the BMW this week playing in the pro-am and as an avid lover of golf, is looking to make an impression.
However, after footage emerged of Holland arriving on the range next to McIlroy and suitably introducing himself, it seems golf fans have picked up on the awkward exchange.
Golf fans claim Rory McIlroy doesn’t know who Tom Holland is after their Wentworth meet
As we all know, social media is a brutal place at times and people are quick to pick up on anything and everything.
And on this occasion, it seems the golfing world thinks McIlroy doesn’t actually have a clue who Tom Holland is
@jonbrayshaw was the first to pick up on it, suggesting McIlroy doesn’t have any idea who Holland is.
“Rory doesn’t know who Tom Holland is,” he said, adding the laughing emoji as well.
@Pressahead also had a similar opinion on the matter.
“Rory hasn’t got a clue who Tom Holland is. Not a bad swing though!”
While @davidslinger had a hilarious idea for Holland, suggesting he use his more ‘well known’ name.
“He should have used his made up name”
Still, there was some praise for Holland for having the bravery to tee it up alongside McIlroy, as @barbedquill pointed out.
“No way I’m hitting any balls if I find myself on the range next to Rory I’m getting a chair out and calling my Dad”
While another user, @lowcutstinger pointed out how Holland was in fact starstruck by meeting Rory.
“Wild how Spider-Man is probably star struck by Rory”
Quite whether McIlroy clocked on and realised who Holland was a bit later on, remains to be unveiled.
Further, it just goes to show that when McIlroy is in work mode, there’s little that can distract him.
Hopefully, his takes that focus into the next four days and gets a big win to round out his season.
