Tommy Fleetwood must still be catching up on all of the congratulatory messages he received after winning the Tour Championship, considering just how many people were pulling for him at East Lake.

The likes of Tiger Woods and NBA star LeBron James sent Fleetwood messages on social media after his Tour Championship victory, as well as many, many more high-profile athletes.

Now Gary Player has sent the Englishman his well-wishes on social media after he finally got over the line to win a PGA Tour event.

Justin Rose was delighted to see his good friend Fleetwood win the Tour Championship at East Lake on Sunday.

Rose‘s reaction when waiting greenside for the 34-year-old summed up exactly how so many people felt watching Fleetwood finally get the job done in America.

Fleetwood will surely go on to win many more trophies after his Tour Championship victory, and he will be feeling on top of the world right now.

Player was clearly a big fan of Fleetwood before he won at East Lake, and he has now put his feelings into a message directed at the Englishman on social media.

Player is one of the most successful golfers of all time, with nine major championships and 159 professional wins worldwide, including 24 PGA Tour titles to his name.

The 89-year-old South African is extremely well respected within golfing circles, and he never hands out praise lightly.

So Fleetwood would be delighted this evening to see that Mr Player has spoken so highly about him on social media.

The nine-time major winner said: I am so incredibly proud of and happy for Tommy Fleetwood and his gutsy perseverance over what has been a terrific professional golf career. Yesterday marked the culmination of decades of hard work and resilience, culminating in the glory of a PGA TOUR win. It was great to see how the crowds, not just at East Lake, have wanted to see Tommy win. A testament to the great person Tommy is. Congratulations, Tommy, and here’s to many more!

Gary Player praise is hard to come by so Tommy Fleetwood should be proud

Player always tells it how he sees it and never beats about the bush when it comes to giving his opinions on the current goings on in the world of professional golf.

It was only recently when Player said he was annoyed with how Rory McIlroy has acted since he won The Masters, and suggested that Jack Nicklaus would ‘straighten’ the Northern Irishman out.

“Yes, I am but I am not happy with the way he has behaved since he won The Masters,” Player admitted.

“Not going to the press and stuff. I have never done that in my life, neither did Palmer or Nicklaus. And then he says he can do what he likes. You can’t. Nobody can do what you like.

“Nicklaus will tell him, Nicklaus will straighten him out. But he has got the most beautiful swing.”

During the same interview, Player claimed that Jordan Spieth had the potential to be the best player in the world, but candidly suggested that the 32-year-old from Dallas, Texas, ‘just can’t hit the ball’ anymore.

He said: Jordan Spieth I think is the best golfer in the world but in my opinion he was taught the wrong thing. And he just went downhill. He went downhill. If you had a man like Ben Hogan teaching Jordan Spieth he would be the best in the world. He’s such a competitor, such a wonderful man. A wonderful guy for golf, the best short game, best course management but he just can’t hit the ball. That is a tragedy.

So Fleetwood will be safe in the knowledge that Player really is a true fan of his, and on the PGA Tour, there are not too many pros who can say that.
