While few American players emerged from the Ryder Cup with any credit, Cameron Young proved to be a revelation at Bethpage Black.
Keegan Bradley not using Cameron Young in all five sessions at the Ryder Cup was baffling. Young grew up in New York and was in great form.
He secured his first PGA Tour victory at the Wyndham Championship just before the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Young went on to win three points from four matches. He set the tone for Team USA’s fightback on Sunday with a superb victory over Justin Rose in the top match.
Cameron Young backed to rise up the world rankings in 2026
The 28-year-old has threatened greatness throughout his career. He finished third at the PGA Championship before going one better at The Open in 2022.
But until recently, he had struggled to get across the line. So it will be interesting to see what the win and his Ryder Cup performance leads to.
Speaking on 5 Clubs, Brendon de Jonge believes that the world number 19 is on his way to becoming one of the very best on the planet.

“I think Cameron Young’s really going to pop [in 2026]. I think Cameron Young’s going to be a top five player in the world come year end,” he said.
“I think he’s going to take so much out of that Ryder Cup, plus getting that first win at Wyndham. Cameron Young, to me, is ready to take it to the next level.”
Gary Williams replied: “I tend to agree with you. I thought the way he was at the Ryder Cup was like this guy is being a bully in the most sedate way, which makes it even more impressive.
“He wasn’t overt, he wasn’t demonstrative. He’s like, ‘no, I’m better than you’. And obviously, the putt he made on 18 was huge.”
The big weakness Cameron Young must address in his game to become one of the very best
Young is such an interesting character. He did not appear to be at all well-suited to playing TGL given that he seems to be so reserved.
And there was plenty of intrigue to see how he would respond to being on the Ryder Cup stage.
Phil Mickelson labelled Young the MVP for Team USA.
There is one area of the game which Young now needs to work on intensely if he is going to realise his full potential.
He was well outside the top 100 on the PGA Tour for strokes gained approach in 2025.
| Category | Strokes gained | Cameron Young’s PGA Tour rank (2025) |
| Off the tee | 0.317 | 30th |
| Tee to green | 0.160 | 81st |
| Approach | -0.124 | 127th |
| Around the green | -0.033 | 102nd |
| Putting | 0.642 | 5th |
| Total | 0.802 | 20th |
So if he can tidy up his iron play over the coming months, he will almost certainly be a force in 2026.
