Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia both missed out on the 2023 Ryder Cup after their controversial moves to LIV Golf.
The pair decided to leave the PGA Tour to become team captains on the rival league ahead of its inaugural season two years ago.
This meant that they were excluded from the Ryder Cup in September 2023 despite making 17 appearances at the competition between them.
This was an unpopular decision with some fans because Garcia is Europe’s leading points scorer in the history of the event and nobody relishes the challenge more than ‘The Postman’.
It seems unlikely that either will have the opportunity to represent Europe again and one player has voiced his opinion on that prospect.

European golfer gets honest about Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia returning to Ryder Cup
Laurie Canter is not a household name like Poulter or Garcia but he’s also had his fair share of media attention in recent months.
Canter joined Poulter’s Majesticks GC in 2023 as a substitute player and played a total on 10 events on the LIV tour.
However, the Englishman is now in line to become the first player to return to the PGA Tour from LIV at the upcoming Players Championship.
Canter spoke about a range of subjects in an interview ahead of The Players, including the potential absences of Ryder Cup legends Poulter and Garcia from Bethpage.
“I know as a friend how much the Ryder Cup means to Poults,” he told The Times. “It has almost defined him as a golfer, and you can probably make that argument for Sergio too.
“It would be very sad if they were never part of it again because there has obviously been a clear change in the mood music with Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton coming back [since joining LIV] and playing on the Tour.”

Sergio Garcia has outside chance of making European team for 2025 Ryder Cup
Ian Poulter has almost no chance of making Luke Donald’s team for the Ryder Cup at Bethpage for the simple reason that he’s not good enough anymore.
He has only finished inside the top 10 twice in 30 LIV events, with his best finish (5th) coming at Chicago last Autumn.
Sergio Garcia, however, cannot be ruled out of earning one of Donald’s captain’s picks. He won the last LIV event in Hong Kong by three shots to Dean Burmester.
The Spaniard also won in Andalucia and finished runner-up three times last season, showing that he can still compete with the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
