Luke Donald has completed his Ryder Cup team this week and while there was joy for the six captain’s picks who joined the qualifiers, there was heartbreak for others.
Being involved in a Ryder Cup is a dream for most players.
Ultimately, though, only 12 players can go and with six of those qualifying automatically, it means captain Donald is left with just six spaces to award himself.
In the end, Donald went with the usual suspects as he kept faith with those who succeeded in Rome in 2023.
Still, while the 12 who represent Team Europe will go there with the backing of everyone, European golfer Matt Wallace was among those to miss out and his emotions told.

Matt Wallace sends message to Team Europe after missing out on the Ryder Cup
Matt Wallace had made no secret of his desire to be a part of the Ryder Cup squad.
However, despite playing well for much of the year, he couldn’t quite amass the points to qualify automatically and he missed out on Donald’s 12.
And after delivering an emotional interview after the Omega European Masters, Wallace has gathered himself to send his well-wishes to the team.
Taking to Instagram to send his message, Wallace showed his class and admitted he’ll not be giving up his dream.
“Big congratulations and best of luck to Europe’s Ryder Cup team heading for Bethpage. I’ll be watching and supporting and know the boys can bring the trophy home,” Wallace wrote.
“For me now, this chapter closes. A new one is just around the corner. I feel my game has been in good shape over the last few months. I’ve put so much into this campaign and I made getting to Bethpage, a course I know well, my goal. Ultimately it wasn’t to be for me this time.
“I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all of the support and messages after yesterday. It was a combination of any final chance slipping away and coming up short in a tournament I have come to love and was desperate to defend.
“Thriston was awesome yesterday and deserved the win. Big thanks to everyone who makes Omega European Masters so special. Wentworth – my favourite golf tournament. My home. I look forward to seeing you all there.”

Matt Wallace will be more determined than ever for 2027
There’s always a player who misses out on things and when it comes to missing out on a Ryder Cup spot, there’s nothing harder to take on the chin.
Still, Wallace has time on his side and with a determined attitude, he can come back and stake a big claim to be included in the next event.

2027 will soon come around and if Wallace can keep the form he’s shown in 2025 and add a win or two to the effort, then he’ll be in the team.
Now, his focus is on following from afar and like every other European, cheering the team on at Bethpage Black.
