Dustin Johnson concludes his LIV Golf season this week in Michigan, looking for team success with 4Aces GC.

Johnson was tied for the lead heading into the final round of LIV Golf Indianapolis, but it was Sebastian Munoz who ultimately emerged victorious.

He defeated Jon Rahm in a playoff, but the Spaniard’s finish was enough to secure the Individual Championship title.

Two-time major champion Johnson finished third in Indianapolis, resulting in a 14th-place finish for the American in the season-long individual standings.

The LIV Golf Team Championship is next in the schedule, with Johnson having led 4Aces GC to fifth place in the team standings.

Dustin Johnson offers solution to ‘ridiculous’ slow play problem at major events

Johnson still loves golf, but has been left very frustrated by one issue he is constantly experiencing at major championships.

He said on the No Bad Lies podcast: “Out here [on LIV] we actually play at a pretty good pace. But the majors is absolutely just ridiculous how long it takes to play.”

And when asked how to fix that, he replied: “I don’t know. It’s tough because they are the biggest tournaments of the year and everyone is grinding.

“It’s always on hard golf courses, so every shot is important. Guys just take a long time. Obviously I am sure there is a way to speed up a little bit.”

Offering one solution, Johnson noted: “You have got to take into account that there are a lot of times that even a fast player, if he plays really quickly, and you get to a really bad lie or a tough situation, you need to take a little bit longer. He deserves to be able to take a little longer on that shot, if he has played fast all day.

“Maybe there has got to be an official with each group timing each shot so then you know this is the amount of time you have on each shot. So say you get 60 seconds and you take 25 seconds every shot, you should get to gain time.”

Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda involved in slow play drama in recent events

Johnson clearly isn’t happy with slow play at major championship level, although the issue has been prevalent elsewhere.

It’s by no means a new problem, with Johnson’s fellow LIV golfer Ian Poulter believing slow play has always been an issue.

There is evidently no quick fix, although the addition of a shot clock is one option, along with fines and even disqualification.

PGA Tour star Scottie Scheffler was annoyed at the BMW Championship after being put on the clock, while slow play has been an issue on the LPGA Tour as well.

Slow play frustrated Nelly Korda at the Women’s PGA Championship, while her fellow star Charley Hull thinks players should lose their tour cards for persistent foul play in that area.

The issue should be high on the agenda of new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp, although he may incidentally have to focus much of his efforts on a potential deal with LIV Golf.
