Dustin Johnson is tied for the lead heading into the final round of LIV Indianapolis on Sunday.

Johnson would not have thought that was possible after six holes of his second round, after Sebastian Munoz made five birdies throughout that stretch of golf at LIV Indianapolis.

Munoz shot an incredible 59 on day one at LIV Indianapolis, and he followed that up with a 67 on Saturday, despite double bogeying his final hole of the day.

That left the door open for Johnson, who fired a 64 to back up his opening round 62.

And with a victory at LIV Indianapolis, Johnson would extend his incredible record of recording at least one win in every season since 2015.

LIV star Johnson still loves the game of golf, despite what some people may think, and that shone through brightly on Saturday in Indianapolis.

The 41-year-old was the best golfer in the world not too long ago – a crown now held by PGA Tour star Scottie Scheffler.

The 29-year-old from Dallas, Texas, has been totally dominant over the past few years, with 17 PGA Tour titles and four major championships to his name.

However, there is still a category where Johnson leads Scheffler, albeit an extremely niche one.

Johnson has undoubtedly regressed as a golfer since he joined LIV from the PGA Tour in 2022.

However, on his day, he still has the game needed to compete with the very best players in the world.

Johnson spoke to the media after his sparkling second round at The Club at Chatham Hills – a magnificent Pete Dye layout.

Interestingly, DJ ranked first in the world in strokes gained total on Pete Dye courses.

And the man from Columbia, South Carolina, explained what the potential reason for that is.

He said: I have no idea. I guess I like his golf courses. (Smiling).

Generally he has small greens. I tend to like when greens are small greens, which these are small. But I have no idea. Maybe I just like the way he does courses.

The two-time major champion is clearly a huge fan of Pete Dye-designed golf courses, and his game must be suited to the way they are laid out.

Johnson shot a nine-under par 63 at Crooked Stick during the second round of the 2016 BMW Championship

Crooked Stick was Dye’s first ever design, way back in 1964.

He also held the course record at Dye’s most famous design – TPC Sawgrass – with a nine-under par 63 until Tome Hoge shot a sparkling 62 in 2023 and then Justin Thomas posted the same score in 2025.

Johnson also nearly won the 2010 PGA Championship held at another one of Dye’s famed layouts – Whistling Straits.

He was dealt a really unlucky break when he grounded his club to the right of the fairway on the 18th hole, only to find out after his ball was lying in what was classed as one of Whistling Straits’ 1000 bunkers.

He was then handed a two-stroke penalty after his round had finished, meaning that he missed out on the playoff with Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson.

However, he has still had a fabulous career in spite of that, and he has enjoyed more success on Pete Dye-designed golf courses than any other player in his generation.
