Jon Rahm might have dropped down the OWGR since moving to LIV Golf but according to one DP World Tour winner, there’s only a couple of players actually better than him right now.
While the official ranking has Rahm down in 52nd place at the moment, that is down to Rahm not being issued OWGR points since his move to LIV.
It remains a contentious issue for LIV players, especially in a Ryder Cup year. Indeed, Bryson DeChambeau is the highest ranked LIV player in 13th, and even that is because he won the US Open last year.
However, when it comes to actual talent and results, DP World Tour winner Angel Hidalgo has said Rahm is behind just two players right now.

Jon Rahm told only Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are better than him
Jon Rahm is a major winner and despite getting some criticism for moving to LIV Golf, he has little to prove really with what he’s achieved in the game.
The Spaniard is very much one of Team Europe’s leaders when it comes to Ryder Cups as well, and according to Spanish Open winner Angel Hidalgo, Rahm is right up there with Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy in the golf ranks.
“Probably, in my opinion, the best Spanish player by far with Sergio (Garcia) in the last 30 years. I don’t know in terms of the world ranking, I know he’s playing a different situation on LIV Golf and it doesn’t count for world ranking. But for me, he’s top three in the world, with Rory and Scottie,” Hidalgo said.
“But I think it gave me extra motivation [to win the Spanish Open]. It’s not the same playing against anyone else. That feeling, I will never forget.”
What Jon Rahm has said about the OWGR and LIV Golf issues
The OWGR issue has dominated a lot of the talk with LIV Golf since its inception.
However, for Jon Rahm, it’s never been something that dominates his thought process.
Rahm commented on the OWGR issue last year and it’s safe to say the Spaniard isn’t a fan of the system in general.
“I haven’t talked to anybody about this or seen any responses. But I’m going to be honest, I didn’t know they were still trying to get world ranking points. But the one thing I can say is I’m going to go back to what I said two years ago in the DP World Tour championship. I didn’t think it was a good system back then. And if anything, the more times that goes on, the more it proves to be wrong,” he said.
“For anyone in this world to think Jaco doesn’t deserve to be in the top 10 or doesn’t know he’s a top 10 player in the world, I don’t know what game you’re watching.”
With a potential deal being explored between the PGA and LIV right now, it remains to be seen how the OWGR problems will be tackled. If at all.
