Any golf event that features Tiger Woods is a bonus these days and with some biggies coming up in the next few weeks, it will be interesting to see if the 15-time major winner does indeed tee it up.

Woods admitted at The Genesis that he’d not played enough and that his goal for 2025 was to try and play more golf tournaments.

At the moment, Woods is featuring in the TGL but there is little in the way of confirmation about his next PGA Tour outing, with many expecting to only see him at the Masters.

Of course, prior to Augusta we have big events like the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Both are huge tournaments where the best in the world want to win and for someone like Woods, they’re chances to tune up ahead of major season.

And according to The Players executive director Lee Smith, having Tiger Woods at TPC Sawgrass would be something he’d love to see.

Tiger Woods urged to play in The Players Championship

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Smith got onto the subject of seeing Tiger Woods at Sawgrass and admitted that should Woods want to play, then it’s something both he and tournament organisers would welcome with open arms.

“As a two-time Players Champion, we would love to have Tiger back in the field at TPC Sawgrass this year,” Smith said.

“His presence at any event elevates the global awareness of even the most premier championship, and to see him walk these fairways again would be incredible for our fans, partners and even his fellow players.

“As we’ve seen with TGL, just getting some glimpses into his greatness and shot-making ability for a brief moment here and there brings the internet to a halt, so to have that experience for a week at The Players would be an amazing moment for our game.”

Why Tiger Woods is exempt for The Players Championship

Tiger Woods could pretty much rock up at any tournament in the world and he’d be welcomed into the field but when it comes to The Players, he does technically still qualify automatically.

Woods had an exemption to the tournament from previously winning but from 2025 onwards, he is exempt for all the PGA Tour’s signature events anyway.

Woods was awarded the lifetime exemption by the PGA Tour policy board, meaning he can tee it up whenever he chooses in the in the signature events.

That means we could see Woods for years to come at The Players, The Memorial, and more.

This year, it seems unlikely we’ll see Woods in action at TPC Sawgrass. But, you never actually know and Woods will be as keen as ever to play as soon as his body allows him.
