Rory McIlroy wants to be fresh for the Ryder Cup, which is scheduled for New York’s Bethpage Black in September.
He just finished T7 at The Open in front of his home fans at Royal Portrush, where Scottie Scheffler clinched the title.
Both players have already qualified for the Ryder Cup, with McIlroy leading the way for Team Europe and Scheffler leading the way for the United States.
The two teams are beginning to take shape, although many twists and turns can be expected between now and the end of September.

He wrote on X during the final round at Royal Portrush: “Harris English and Matt Fitzpatrick booked their Ryder Cup spots this week.”
English finished four shots behind Scheffler in second at The Open, with Fitzpatrick tying for fourth with Haotong Li and Wyndham Clark.
The Englishman has climbed a huge nine places to 13th in the Ryder Cup qualification standings after his display, while the American is up four places to sixth.

Each team will feature six automatic qualifiers and six captain’s picks, with time rapidly running out until the sides are confirmed.
