The Las Vegas Showdown turned out to be an evening to forget for LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau.

Playing alongside Brooks Koepka, the 31-year-old never looked like offering much competition to PGA Tour duo Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler at Shadow Creek.

Wearing a huge puffer jacket, DeChambeau wasn’t his usual self. He was a far cry from the YouTube sensation who has captured the imagination of millions in recent months.

Despite the heavy defeat, however, DeChambeau admitted he would play in a second edition of The Showdown should such an opportunity emerge in the future.

Whenever DeChambeau takes to the course, headlines tend to follow the LIV Golf star, both good and bad. Unfortunately, the American was the subject of some negative headlines after the Las Vegas event.

Golf fans were annoyed when DeChambeau removed his earpiece, preventing those on TNT Sports from hearing the action close up. Now, CBS Sports pundits Rick Gehman and Patrick McDonald have spoken out about DeChambeau’s actions.

Gehman said: “When you are going out there to a new golf you have just got to be able to play. Scottie and Rory are two of the best that there are right now, if not the best.

“Bryson has become very, very popular in the last year or two and unfortunately the thing which always rubs me the wrong way is that he is so likeable when things are going his way. But as soon as something goes wrong, he kind of turns into a little snot, quite honestly.”

McDonald replied: “He goes back into his shell. He goes back into hiding into that jacket of his. It’s a made-for-TV thing; you are the perfect person for it; you are the best golfer in the world in this situation. And you take off your AirPods, you take off your mic; if I was the people behind it, I would probably be a little irked by that.”

Gehman added: “Just a little corny. A little more than my liking. When things are going awesome, it’s great, but I hate when things go sideways for him because we get that kind of crybaby version of himself.”

What’s next for Bryson DeChambeau after Showdown defeat?

DeChambeau now has a break until the LIV Golf season gets underway in Riyadh at the start of February. Before The Showdown at Shadow Creek, his last outing was the Team Championship finale in Dallas.

Clearly, the lack of competitive golf took its toll on DeChambeau and Koepka. McIlroy, who featured regularly during the autumnal stretch of the season, was by far the sharpest in Las Vegas. Scheffler was also coming off another victory, this time at the Hero World Challenge.

Despite all the positive work DeChambeau has done since his move to LIV, the American still has his moments. Clearly, like most professionals, he hates losing, but still providing entertainment in difficult on-course moments is a must, especially for someone who has such a prominent social media presence.
