Viktor Hovland has suffered an injury setback ahead of the 2025 PGA Tour season starting at The Sentry next week.

Several big-name players are set to tee it up in Maui for what has become a popular event over the years. Norwegian Hovland has only just returned from injury and is already Hawaii ahead of the first round, which starts on Thursday, January 5.

After reuniting with coach Joseph Mayo midway through last season, Hovland will be looking to improve on what was a largely disappointing 2024.

The 27-year-old, however, has a fresh injury issue to deal with.

Hovland shared an Instagram post on Friday that appeared to show a broken toe and a caption that read: “Bed frame 1 – 0 me.”

Collin Morikawa, who is never afraid to respond to his fellow professionals on social media, made light of the situation.

“I’m wrapping myself in some bubble wrap on the way to Hawaii,” the two-time major winner wrote.

Viktor Hovland news comes after Scottie Scheffler withdraws from The Sentry

Hovland’s injury comes after world number one Scottie Scheffler pulled out of the season opener in Hawaii. Scheffler’s manager confirmed that the 28-year-old damaged his hand whilst serving Christmas Day dinner.

The American underwent surgery and will be out for at least three to four weeks. Scheffler’s next scheduled event is the American Express, although it remains to be seen whether he will compete in La Quinta. If the world number one can’t play, the AT&T at Pebble Beach could be the first time he takes to a course in 2025.

It’s unclear whether Hovland’s injury will impact him ahead of the season opener in Hawaii. To date, the Norwegian has not suggested that a withdrawal is imminent.

Hovland has never won The Sentry and finished tied for 22nd in 2024, finishing at 21 under after carding a six-under-par final round at the Plantation Course.
