Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer in the world, but he definitely isn’t conventional in the way that he goes about his business.

Scheffler now has three major wins and 15 PGA Tour titles to his name after last week’s triumph at the PGA Championship.

Claude Harmon’s weekly podcast was centred around the 28-year-old Texan this week.

And his guest, Steve Sands, suggested that Scheffler will go on to win more majors than Rory McIlroy when all is said and done.

It would take a brave person to bet against that happening. The three-time major champion is an absolute machine, and he approaches every tournament in the same fashion.

That statement rings true this week as well, after Scheffler said he is playing the Charles Schwab Challenge to win.

But what is the secret to his success? Some say it’s his incredible mental strength, whilst others point towards his pinpoint iron play.

Claude Harmon shocked by what Randy Smith told him about Scottie Scheffler

Harmon was speaking on the Son of a Butch podcast about Scheffler’s recent rise to golfing domination.

Since he won The Masters in 2022, only McIlroy has been able to get close to him.

The scary thing for Scheffler’s rivals is that there is no sign of him letting up. The severe hand injury he suffered during the holidays didn’t even slow him down.

Harmon opened up on what he thinks it is that makes Scheffler so great.

And the answer seems to be something incredibly simple.

He said, I was talking to Randy, and I asked him on Friday. His attention to detail with his grip. I asked Randy about that and he said he has changed his grip two times, and I was like, ‘oh cool, tell me about that’. And he was like ‘yeh, once when he was 13 and once when he was in college’. And I’m like, ‘that is just so unbelievably rare’. His golf swing is unique in that it’s kind of a throwback. There are so many players on the PGA Tour now. You don’t see any funky grips anymore, you don’t see the Paul Azinger-type swings. You see everybody kind of the same size as Scottie, but they all put the club in a beautiful position like an Adam Scott or a Tommy Fleetwood. I love the fact that at all of the majors, regardless of how he plays, working on something. There is a simplicity in the things that he and Randy work on.

Scottie Scheffler’s incredible consistency proven in his results

Scheffler is as consistent as they come.

He has only missed 19 cuts in 140 PGA Tour events, and he hasn’t missed a weekend’s golf for 54 straight tournaments now.

The 28-year-old’s record over the past five years or so is incredibly strong.

Now Scheffler will have nothing more on his mind than racking up more wins in both regular tour events and majors on a consistent basis.

He has everything needed to go on and achieve golfing immortality by becoming a legend in the game.

And the fact that he keeps everything as simple as possible is one of the main contributing factors to why he’s so good.
