Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz is already a legend of his sport, but his golf game is quickly improving, too.

At 22 years old, he’s already a six-time Grand Slam winner and one of the greatest players to pick up a racquet. Alcaraz is just a month removed from winning the 2025 US Open, the second time he’s won the event.

He’s also an avid golf fan! Alcaraz was recently at the Spanish Open in his home country, where he played alongside the likes of Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry in a pro-am a day before the tournament started. He looked particularly excited to meet Lowry before their round together!

The Spaniard revealed his handicap just a month ago, but a recent update has shown incredible improvement for an amateur in such a short amount of time.

Carlos Alcaraz’s new handicap a month after saying he is a 14

Prior to the US Open, Alcaraz said he has a 14 handicap. He said, “My handicap right now is 14. It’s getting down, but it takes time. I mean, for me it’s a privilege to have time to play some golf, to be honest.”

He says it takes time, but apparently not much! At the Spanish Open, he revealed that just one month later, his handicap is down to 11.2. That’s a remarkable near-three stroke improvement!

Alcaraz has been much more involved in the game of golf throughout 2025. He played with Andy Murray prior to Wimbledon, and now has leaned on the expertise of Rahm and Lowry, who won the Ryder Cup just two weeks before.

He’s joined a long list of tennis legends to take up the sport. Murray is attempting to become a scratch player and played at the Dunhill Links Championship last week. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal played at Augusta National a month after Rory McIlroy won the Masters

But starting at 17 years old, Alcaraz has a head-start on them all, and is well-positioned to become the best golfer of the lot!

What Carlos Alcaraz shot over four holes at the Spanish Open pro-am

Alcaraz represented himself well at the Spanish Open pro-am after a difficult start to his round. He started with two double bogeys, but recovered his round immediately.

A three-putt on the first hole saw him score a six, then he struggled to find the green out of thick rough for another six on the second hole.

However, a long putt on the par-3 third meant Alcaraz recorded a birdie, and he smoked a drive on the fourth to make a routine par.

That meant Alcaraz shot 18 over four holes just one day prior to the Spanish Open in Madrid, with Lowry watching in his group.

Not bad at all after what threatened to be a disaster in the first two holes!
