Cameron Young produced a stunning round of golf at The Travelers today to card a rare 59.

Young was on fire throughout the entire round and carded a quite magnificent 11-under for the day to put him right near the top of the leaderboard.

Quite remarkably for a player with such power and talent, Young has yet to win on the PGA Tour despite winning on the Korn Ferry but he’s put himself right in the mix now.

Of course, he still isn’t sitting top of the pile and after storms interrupted round three again, Tom Kim was actually leading on 14-under.

Naturally, you’d expect Young to come out and say that he had a good feeling all day before shooting 59.

However, speaking afterwards to the press, Young actually suggested he didn’t quite see this one coming.

Cam Young shares why he was surprised at shooting 59 at The Travelers

Speaking in his interview immediately after his stunning round of 59, Young admitted that he’d not felt particularly good about his game before heading out onto the course.

“I woke up, would have preferred to go back to sleep. And did exactly what I do at every day.

“Came to the golf course, grabbed a coffee at eight. Saw the physio, went out there and warmed up, didn’t feel particularly awesome.

“Chunked a few less on the range than I did yesterday and then went out there, felt very comfortable and things started coming down close to the hole,” Young said.

Who else has shot a 59 on the PGA Tour?

Young joins a small group of just 12 players who have shot such a score on the PGA Tour.

Unbelievably, the only person to ever shoot lower – Jim Furyk shot a 58 back in 2016 – also happened at The Travelers.

Young now joins a list of illustrious names albeit some of the biggest names in golf, like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, are missing.

Unsurprisingly, the last man to shoot such a score was a certain Scottie Scheffler, who fired his 59 back in 2020.

Justin Thomas has also done it, while the first to ever hit such a score was Al Geiberger all the way back in 1977.

Young, then, will be hoping to kick on and actually win after achieving such a feat.
