Cameron Young is making a late surge to qualify for Keegan Bradley’s Ryder Cup team.

Young won the first PGA Tour event of his career at the Wyndham Championship two weeks ago, and he is now sitting in 14th position in the US Ryder Cup points list.

It seems like there is a strong chance that Bradley will select him for the showdown with Europe at Bethpage Black, while a win at the BMW Championship would almost guarantee him a place on the team.

Young has already made it clear that he’d be an asset for Bradley’s Ryder Cup team, and it’s hard to argue against that given his current form and enormous length off the tee.

It didn’t go unnoticed that Young said his goal was to make the Ryder Cup team, BEFORE the Wyndham Championship had even started.

And Bradley would have undoubtedly been hugely impressed with the 28-year-old’s dominant victory at Sedgefield Country Club.

Cameron Young says why Keegan Bradley should pick him for the Ryder Cup team

Young is clearly desperate to feature in the Ryder Cup in his home state.

The man from Scarborough, New York, has found his form at just the right time.

And during an interview with SIRIUSXM PGA TOUR Radio, Young was asked why Bradley should pick him for the Ryder Cup team.

The one-time PGA Tour winner said: I think that my history at that golf course, albeit not on the PGA Tour, is a good point.

Being from the area I think I would draw a good bit of support, and like you said, my current form would be a strong point. I was way down the FedEx Cup list. In May, I was way down in the 80s, and I’ve played some really, really good golf since then to get myself to where I’m at today.

If you look at a bunch of metrics outside of the points list, I think the points list happens to be my kind of least strong point unfortunately.

I think there are a lot other things that go in my favour including current form. You know, I have to take advantage of that and keep playing good golf. That will eventually show up in the points, and this week is a nice opportunity to do that.

Why Cameron Young is perfectly suited to Bethpage Black

Young became the first amateur in history to win the New York State Open in 2017, when he was just 20.

While doing so, he set a new course record at the time at Bethpage Black with a scintillating 64 – one that was broken two years later by Brooks Koepka on his way to winning the PGA Championship.

Bethpage is suited perfectly to Young’s game.

The golf course stretches out to around 7,500 yards and plays as a par-72 for amateur pay and play golfers, while the pros play it as a par-70 when it hosts major championships.

That is a seriously long golf course, and Young’s length off the tee would be extremely beneficial for the US Ryder Cup team in September.

He ranks 23rd on the PGA Tour in driving distance, with an average of 312.9 yards.

The 28-year-old is ranked in 13th spot in club-head speed with an impressive 122.94 mph and 15th in ball-speed, with 183.13 mph on average.

As things stand, it will be incredibly difficult for Bradley to leave Young off the Ryder Cup team.
