For pretty much any golfer, teeing it up against Tiger Woods in a state-of-the-art, purpose-built, multi-million dollar arena is a dream.
And fortunately for Cameron Young, he was the lucky New York Golf Club player who faced off against Woods in the TGL on Tuesday evening.
With Woods‘ Jupiter Links GC trailing in the match, the 49-year-old kicked off the singles with a birdie on the par-five 10th hole. Young could only make par. Was the comeback on? Unfortunately not.
After Kevin Kisner lost hole 11 to Rickie Fowler and Tom Kim halved the 12th with Matt Fitzpatrick, Woods made a double bogey on the 13th and eventually conceded the hole to Young. New York Golf Club would go on to seal a 10-3 win and move into the TGL playoff spots.
Cameron Young makes Tiger Woods admission

Post-match, Young was asked what it was like to go head-to-head with Woods at the SoFi Centre and admitted it was the first time he’d ever played with or against the 15-time major winner.
“Yeah, it’s cool. I think the vast majority of people my age hold him as their golf idol. I’ve actually never played with him before. I’ve played in a few tournaments that he’s played in, but I’ve never played with him. I’ve played in the group behind him, I think the group in front of him maybe once,” Young revealed.
“But yeah, anytime you get to be around someone that is that much a legend of the game, it’s really cool. It’s something that wouldn’t have been in the front of my mind as something that was going to happen 10 years ago, but I’d love for it to be in a tournament setting on the PGA Tour at some point, as well. But I’ll take what I can get. It’s a cool experience.”
Could Tiger Woods be set for PGA Tour return
With Woods playing the TGL, many assumed his PGA Tour return would soon follow. However, after initially committing to playing the Genesis Invitational, Woods withdrew from the Torrey Pines event after the sad passing of his mother, Kultida.
Next up on the PGA Tour schedule is the Mexico Championship before the Cognizant Classic at PGA National. The rebranded Honda Classic is played in Palm Beach and could well be a suitable return event for Woods.
The 49-year-old was coy about the prospect of playing next week. “I really haven’t thought about golf, so I don’t think I’m going to be thinking about it for just a little bit here,” Woods said.
Tiger Woods wants to play more in 2025
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Woods at the moment, he did provide an optimistic summary of his 2025 intentions during a brief broadcast appearance last Sunday.
“My goal is to play more and I haven’t played, so I have got to work on that,” Woods said. “This process was unexpected so I will get back after it and look forward to playing some bigger events.”
