Torrey Pines has been a happy hunting ground for Tiger Woods over the years. The 15-time major winner has won eight times at the iconic San Diego venue.

Of course, Woods’ 2008 US Open victory is his most famous triumph at Torrey. In an epic playoff that lasted 19 holes, Woods edged out Rocco Mediate.

Woods‘ last win at Torrey Pines came during the 2013 Farmers Insurance Open. Holding an eight-shot lead, Woods was sloppy down the stretch but eventually cruised to a four-stroke victory over Brandt Snedeker. After the 2013 edition, Woods was left frustrated by the pace of play at Torrey Pines and suggested the slow round was to blame for his poor finish.

Another piece of Woods magic at Torrey Pines occurred at the 1999 Buick Open.

Starting the weekend nine shots back of the lead, Woods flew up the leaderboard after carding a third-round 62 (ten under).

Woods made eight birdies and an eagle on the South Course and would eventually tie Billy Ray Brown through 17 holes on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Woods would then eagle the 72nd hole to clinch a two-shot victory and finish 22 under for the week. It was Tiger’s first win of eight during the 1999 season.

“My intention was to shoot 63 today,” Woods said after his round.

Ray Brown also lauded Woods’ performance.: “I had one of the greatest days of head-to-head golf.”

“But he was incredible. He’s like a machine.”

Tiger Woods delays PGA Tour return

Woods is competing in the TGL, so there is hope that he will return to the PGA Tour a little better prepared than in previous years.

However, after initially committing to the Genesis Invitational, Woods pulled out of the event after the sad passing of his mother, Kultida.

Woods has consistently claimed he will only return to professional golf if he believes he’s ready to challenge the world’s best players.

In his latest statement, the 15-time major winner admitted he’s just not ready to compete after his mother’s passing.

“I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready,” Woods said. “I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mum would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.”
