Patrick Reed and Phil Mickelson are two polarising figures who are currently plying their trade on the LIV Golf League.

PGA Tour players have mixed feelings towards Mickelson primarily due to his decision to quit golf’s traditional circuit and sign a lucrative deal with LIV.

Meanwhile, Reed is often the centre of fan anger and is never afraid to ruffle a few feathers. The American was never the most popular player on the PGA Tour, so his move to LIV only further damaged his reputation.

Cam Smith, one of LIV’s 2022 signings, has now been asked to share his feelings about Reed and Mickelson.

During an interview with the Herald Sun, Smith started by delivering a glowing verdict on Mickelson.

“I have a good relationship with him [Phil Mickelson]. I wouldn’t call us best mates or say we hang out together all the time, but we talk a fair bit. He is a f—— character, that guy. He is just one of a kind. People don’t realise how witty he is. Very funny behind the scenes. Always has a lot to say.”

Smith’s appraisal of Reed, however, was a little less positive.

“Patrick Reed”, Smith was asked: “Ahhh (laughs) … you have got me there … he is a hard worker,” said the Aussie.

Cameron Smith loving LIV Golf life

Smith appears at home on LIV and helped Ripper GC win the Team Championship. On a personal level, the Aussie finished T2 in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Smith also placed second at LIV Golf UK before the season finales in Dallas and Chicago. Despite failing to win in 2024, the Aussie will be happy with his efforts.

The 31-year-old has also confirmed that his Ripper GC side will not change, with Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert, and Matt Jones all set to remain for the 2025 season.

Other teams, including the RangeGoats and Legion XIII, are on the lookout for new additions after certain members endured a difficult 2024 campaign.
