Bryson DeChambeau says he’s developing a new golf product which he’ll be able to use later this year

Bryson DeChambeau never stops in his quest to move the needle.

The LIV Golf star has aspirations of winning the US Open at the highly-esteemed Oakmont this week.

DeChambeau has been in fine form in general this season, with one win on LIV and two top-5 finishes in the majors.

On Wednesday, DeChambeau confirmed that his current deal with LIV will expire next year, but he clearly hopes to continue with the Saudi-backed golf league after that.

The 31-year-old is one of the most marketable players in the game, if not the most marketable.

One of the reasons why he is so popular is the fact that he is so relatable.

Phil Mickelson recently suggested that it has been ‘remarkable’ to see DeChambeau’s true personality come to the fore over the past few years.

The two-time US Open champion is on a never-ending quest to reach the next level, there’s no question about that.

Bryson DeChambeau says he’s developing a new golf product

The man from Modesto, California, is affectionately known in golfing circles as ‘the scientist’.

He constantly tries to develop new designs for his equipment in order to help him improve as a player.

And he shared with the media on Tuesday a really interesting plan he has up his sleeve regarding a new golf ball.

He said, “Yeah, I’ve got some new irons in the bag, which have been great. I’ve optimized it a little bit more, so hopefully that helps with those overdraws in my irons. You never know. But they seem to have helped this week, and hopefully it aids for me this week.

“The golf ball is a longer discussion. That’s going to be a bit of time. I’m still working on it. We think later this year I’ll have a golf ball that will be very interesting to test.

“If it helps, who knows. It’s a test. But I’m excited to keep researching and trying and experimenting and optimizing. My goal right now is just to optimize myself to another level, and if I can’t, so be it. If I can in some areas, great.

“Yeah, so we iterated on the design of the face. The heel is a little bit flatter on the curvature. My face obviously has some curvature on the irons. So we’re just optimizing for the gear effect on the heel and on the toe based on the mass properties that are there. Like the heel doesn’t gear effect as much in an iron at my speeds, so hitting it on the heel, I’ve got to be a little flatter, and then the toe has a little bit more roundness on it to account for that out there, and then I moved the CG out towards the toe.

“I’ve got such heavy grips and heavy golf shaft that it moves the CG of the club all the way to the heel so we try to offset that with that tungsten weight on the toe. That’s very simply what it is.“

What DeChambeau said about a new ball after the PGA Championship

DeChambeau has already shared his desire to bring a new ball into play.

Back in May, just after the final round of the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, the American lifted the lid on his desire to take golf ball technology to a whole new level.

He said, “What I really think needs to happen, being pretty transparent here, is just get a golf ball that flies a little straighter. Everybody talks about how straight the golf ball flies. Well, upwards of 190 like Rory and myself, it’s actually quite difficult to control the golf ball.

“I’m going to work my butt off to make that happen. It’s all up to manufacturing. We’ll see what happens but I’m keen on finding something and I’m keen on improving. I’m excited for that.”

Well, we all want a golf ball that flies straighter don’t we!

Why is DeChambeau looking at a ball that flies straighter though? Well, his iron play has let him down badly in the majors this season.

It will be really interesting to see whether or not DeChambeau’s new irons help him out in that regard at the US Open this week.

It seems like he will have to wait a while before he brings the ‘straighter flying’ golf ball into play though!
