Bryson DeChambeau is currently sitting tied for the lead after day one at LIV Virginia.

DeChambeau is the hottest golfer on LIV right now and in fact, he’s one of the very biggest draws in world golf.

The 31-year-old American has increased his popularity exponentially over the past year or so with his content creation on YouTube proving to be a huge hit with younger fans.

He is not only popular, but a truly elite golfer as well, and will head into the US Open next week as one of the leading favourites to win the tournament.

DeChambeau played Oakmont in a practice round last Saturday, and shot a round of even-par 70, with five bogeys and five birdies on his scorecard.

The three-time winner on LIV has improved his all-round game this season.

DeChambeau is now incredibly accurate off the tee as well as being the longest hitter in the game – quite the combination!

Not much was actually happening for the two-time US Open winner during day one at LIV Virginia on Thursday, but that all changed after the rain delay.

DeChambeau was like a man possessed after returning to the course following the rain delay.

He quickly moved from one-under par to five-under with a chip-in eagle on 14, a birdie on 15 and a chip-in birdie on 16.

DeChambeau ended the day at five-under par, tied for the lead with Martin Kaymer.

The LIV Golf star spoke to reporters after his round, and suggested that he wasn’t happy at all with one aspect of his game.

The American responded when asked whether he was happy with his putting on day one.

He said, No, I didn’t calculate the speed right. The putting green was just a fraction slower, and I just didn’t adjust to it very well. So I sucked at that.

DeChambeau then explained how he is in a great place in his life right now.

He explained, Man, it’s been preparation my whole entire life, man. I’ve gotten to a place where I feel really comfortable with my game, comfortable with the people around me, comfortable with my team.

We get out here through the golf course and go through all of our parameters that make me one of the better players out here, and I just try to play the best golf after that.

DeChambeau is in a great place right now, but the speed of his mid-long range putts at LIV Virginia on day one will have been a big concern for him.

This is especially true with the unbelievably quick and undulating greens at Oakmont lying in wait for him.

DeChambeau on ‘diabolical’ Oakmont

The American played a practice round at the Henry Fownes design last week.

And he was stunned by just how difficult the course was.

DeChambeau shared the ‘diabolical’ aspect of Oakmont during the video he posted to his YouTube channel.

He said, “That’s the diabolical aspect of this golf course. You have these slopes and moguls, to downhill (approaches), to almost a pretty straightforward design. It’s a wild piece of architecture.

If DeChambeau is on top form, he could very well win his third US Open title next month.

However, if his putting is off like it was on day one at LIV Virginia, especially regarding his speed control, he will struggle at Oakmont.
