Bryson DeChambeau was definitely one of the stars of 2024, with the American sealing his second major championship at the US Open in dramatic fashion back in June.

In arguably one of the greatest days in major championship history, Bryson DeChambeau edged a phenomenal duel with Rory McIlroy, with the Northern Irishman bogeying three of the final four holes at Pinehurst No. 2 to lose by one to the LIV Golf star.

Not only did the win see DeChambeau move himself into that incredible group of current players sat on two major titles – a group Xander Schauffele would add his name to at The Open Championship the following month – but it also saw the 31-year-old cement himself as one of the most popular figures in the game.

DeChambeau has arguably been the biggest success story since LIV Golf started. He has been able to use the quieter schedule to work on his game, and ensure that he peaks at the right times during the year – much like foe turned friend Brooks Koepka.

Bryson DeChambeau names his next goal after US Open triumph

The remainder of his 2024 may not have reached similar heights – DeChambeau did not win on LIV last year and he went on to miss the cut at Royal Troon – but he is certainly going to be one to watch in 2025. And of course, there is added significance to the major championships now given the division which exists in the game.

DeChambeau was asked on Grant Horvat’s YouTube channel what his next big goal is following his US Open triumph, and he did not hesitate when suggesting success at Augusta National.

The Masters, not even a question, The Masters,” he said.

“I played okay this year. It wasn’t what I know I can do.”

A complicated history at Augusta National

Something seemed to click for DeChambeau at Augusta this year. Previously, he had registered just one top 25 finish and missed the cut in both 2022 and 2023. It was hardly the best look for someone who once claimed that he views Augusta as a par 67.

But he looked set to silence his critics in the early stages of the 2024 event, taking the lead after the opening round with a ‘two under par’ 65. And he would continue to find himself at the top of the leaderboard at the halfway mark.

Unfortunately, a 75 on Saturday meant that he was four shots behind Scottie Scheffler with one round to play. And a third over par round in a row on Sunday meant that he could only finish in a tie for sixth, nine shots back of Scheffler.

It is going to be an important year for DeChambeau next season. While his US Open triumph was spectacular, it may surprise plenty of people to know that he has just three wins since joining LIV Golf in 2022 because he has been such a huge figure in the game.

A Masters win and a third major title would certainly confirm DeChambeau as the superstar he clearly has the potential to be.
