Bryson DeChambeau won the US Open at the weekend as he propelled himself back into the top ten in the world.

The OWGR rankings have been punishing LIV Golf stars in recent times but with DeChambeau winning at Pinehurst and finishing second at Valhalla, he’s moved right back up to tenth.

Of course, he’ll probably drop back down those rankings unless he produces a fine performance in The Open, as PGA players have the chance to add more points to their total on the PGA Tour and more.

At the moment, the world number one is Scottie Scheffler by some distance.

However, after being so good in the last two majors and starring in LIV, some have suggested DeChambeau is actually the top dog.

And speaking on that very subject, DeChambeau has shared how he sees it right now.

Bryson DeChambeau explains if he feels he’s the best golfer in the world right now

Speaking to the press ahead of taking part in LIV Nashville this week, DeChambeau explained his feelings on being the top player around right now.

“Even though the OWGR didn’t reflect I was number one in the world (when he won two FedEx Cup events back in 2018), I sort of felt like the way I was playing reflected where I felt I could win one week, then I could win again and again,” DeChambeau said.

“And now it’s kind of the same thing. I sort of feel right now that the stats reflect purely what it shows exactly. Being tenth is awesome, from only playing a few events.

“Am I the best in the world? It’s not for me to decide. I’m just going to play the best golf I can and try to get that ball in the hole quicker than everyone else. I’m not going to put a label or title on myself, that’s not what I do.

“But much respect…I definitely appreciate it.”

DeChambeau is in the conversation

Golf needs to get a hold of the OWGR system and make it a touch fairer for those competing on the LIV side of things.

Those politics in the sport need ironing out and only then might we see a fair reflection of where everyone stands.

However, there’s no doubt that Bryson is in the conversation. He has produced some stunning golf of late and if he does similar in Nashville this weekend, then it only strengthens the argument.

Scottie Scheffler is by far and away the main man this season as we know. But DeChambeau has produced in big moments as well, and if he was on the PGA Tour, he might well be close to Scheffler.
