Bryson DeChambeau has shared his delight after speaking to Grant Horvat about the Myrtle Beach Classic qualifier.

The competition – which took place in March – gave YouTube personalities the chance to compete for a spot in a PGA Tour event.

16 YouTubers took to the South Carolina course in a field that included Horvat, Peter Finch and Micah Morris.

Unsurprisingly, Korn Ferry Tour pro Matt Atkins took the spot in May’s inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic after carding a three-under 69.

British personality Finch finished four shots adrift with a 73, and Horvat ten shots back after carding a seven-over-par 79.

Speaking on Horvat’s latest YouTube video, DeChambeau asked the 24-year-old about his experience in South Carolina.

“I haven’t felt those nerves in years,” Horvat explained. “It got to a point where I realised it was real. When we are filming videos like this, it’s serious, like we are trying to beat each other, but when it got quiet and serious and I was with George, I was like, ‘Oh my goodness’.”

DeChambeau replied: “I am glad to hear that, it’s awesome. It’s cool to hear you guys come into our world and feel those types of nerves.”

Myrtle Beach Classic qualifier certainly needs work

YouTube golf is a massive part of the modern game and, through the likes of DeChambeau, is certainly making an impression.

But, considering the level of content produced, the overall produce at the Myrtle Beach Classic qualifier was anything but up to scratch.

The execution of the coverage was sub-par, particularly after the golfing world had to wait for the participants to release the results after signing NDAs.

A qualifying event for amateurs from a specific background is a brilliant idea, but the organisers should maybe think about handing the production responsibility to someone slightly more professional.

Given the level of interest, handing the qualifier to a broadcasting company could have been a viable option.
