Bryson DeChambeau has revealed one big mistake amateur players make whilst trying to hit the ball a long way when practising.
The American is known for his distance and clocked the biggest drive during the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla.
DeChambeau’s brute strength and attention to detail regarding the numbers behind his swing have seen him become one of the longest players in the modern game.
Valhalla, known for its length, was quickly pulled apart by the American, who was heading into most par-fives with a short iron or wedge in hand.
Many would assume distance is linked with the speed at which the club head is delivered at impact; however, DeChambeau has shared the real reason why he hits the ball so far.
Bryson DeChambeau shares mistake amateur golfers make when trying to hit the ball far

In a video produced by LIV Golf, DeChambeau has revealed one critical mistake that amateur players continuously make.
The PGA Championship runner-up said: “The most important thing when trying to accumulate power and distance is that you’ve got to swing as hard as you can but not with energy swinging fast; you have to be applying lots of force to the golf club.
“The most common mistakes I see are people trying to swing quickly and trying to generate speed. A lot of the times when I’m swinging it, I take a lot longer and load the club for a lot longer.
“It’s not about quickness; it’s about how much energy you can load into the club, and that’s a completely different thing.”
Bryson is doing something right off the course
DeChambeau sometimes comes under fire for his overconfidence and unique tendencies.
But his desire to grow the game of golf to a wider audience cannot be questioned. His YouTube channel and work with LIV are continuously pushing the boundaries.
Whether it’s trying to break 50 or offering advice to amateurs, the stuff DeChambeau does online can only be a positive.
Furthermore, his social media presence doesn’t appear to be impacting his game too much.
His performance at Valhalla last week was exceptional, and the LIV Golf star now heads to Pinehurst as one of the favourites as he looks to land his second major title.
