Bryson DeChambeau won’t feature at next week’s Olympic event, but the big-hitting American hasn’t ruled out participating in future games.

Team USA will consist of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, and Wyndham Clark, the four highest-ranked players currently.

American fans aren’t happy with Clark’s inclusion, given the 2023 US Open champion has endured a torrid season, particularly in the majors.

DeChambeau’s world ranking has massively improved in recent months, but not enough to force his way into the team. However, if LIV Golf carried some OWGR weight, there’s no doubt the 30-year-old would be participating.

Speaking before The Open, Jon Rahm also gave his honest verdict on DeChambeau’s Paris Olympic snub.

A route in the future could see an Olympic qualifying event take place, similar to most participating sports. And it’s a scenario DeChambeau can envisage.

“Yeah, potentially [a new tournament]. I don’t know the ins and outs of that,” said the 2024 US Open champion.

“I had a chance in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and didn’t get to go because of COVID, unfortunately. “I got it literally the week before. I still got all the stuff, which was really cool, but not going there was a sad feeling not being there.”

DeChambeau went on to ponder the idea of a qualifying tournament.

“Obviously, this year is a little different, with the whole situation between LIV and the PGA kind of making things a little bit different,” he added. “I could foresee something like that happening, there being a tournament, but as it stands right now, I am excited to watch.”

Qualifying tournament the only fair way for the USA Olympic team to be decided

The OWGR isn’t a true reflection of the best players in the world.

Clark, who has missed three major cuts this season, is clearly not one of the game’s elite players at the moment. DeChambeau is lightyears ahead of the 30-year-old on current form.

Given LIV’s presence, USA decision-makers must devise a fairer and more accurate way of selecting in-form players.

A bit like US Open qualifying, a 36-hole competition involving the top 30 American stars feels like the smartest move.

Now, ahead of the Olympics, all eyes will be on Clark’s performance and criticism loaded for when he potentially continues his woeful recent form.
