With The Memorial Tournament over and done with, it’s just weeks until the US Open at the treacherous Oakmont Country Club and experience American golfer, Brandt Snedeker, has fired a warning to every player taking part.
The 44-year-old Snedeker roared back into some form at Muirfield Village but just missed on securing a spot at The Open at Royal Portrush as Rickie Fowler beat him to the punch.
Snedeker will now try and qualify for the upcoming US Open at Oakmont in what promises to be a hectic day of qualifying around the US.
Still, Snedeker has enough experience in the game to know just how tough Oakmont can be and speaking after his final round at The Memorial, he fired a big warning shot to the field.

Brandt Snedeker’s Oakmont warning ahead of the US Open
There is very much an expectancy that Oakmont will provide one of the very toughest tests of the year.
The thick rough, lightning greens and the layout of the course in general mean that we could see a high scoring affair.
Indeed, according to Snedeker, players could be in for quite the shock.
“Yeah, you have to like the fact that 30 percent of the guys are going to hate it, and they’re going to be gone really quickly. That golf course is going to drive you crazy. So you need to accept that and realize that everybody’s going to have to deal with the same stuff,” Snedeker admitted.
“I’ve played a U.S. Amateur there, I’ve played a couple Opens there. I kind of know what to expect when you get there. You’re going to have some 3-putts, you’re going to have some great putts that don’t go in, you’re going to look silly a few times around there, and you’re going to pitch out a lot. So that’s part of it.
“So that’s part of the reason why I love playing U.S. Opens, is it doesn’t really favor anybody. You got to drive the ball pretty straight, and when you don’t, everybody’s pitching out. Nobody’s hitting it up around those greens, especially at Oakmont. If you put it in the wrong spot there, you’re going to make a big number.”
What PGA Tour players are already saying about Oakmont
Brandt Snedeker is not the first player in recent weeks to talk up the difficulty of Oakmont Country Club and it feels like the players are in for a rough ride.
Justin Rose warned the big hitters this weekend that they’ll need to be on their game to perform well, while Shane Lowry shared how the course made him walk off when he first visited.
Furthermore, Justin Thomas has also confirmed the rumours of Oakmont’s difficulty are true.
“I actually went to Oakmont yesterday. I got in Monday. Generally, this place doesn’t change very much. I think that the years I haven’t played well here, I don’t think it’s necessarily from a lack of course knowledge. It’s more of an execution standpoint. Practice rounds in especially U.S. Opens have gotten pretty long and can be a little difficult to get all the work done that week, so I felt like it was a better use of my time, and Rev and I just took a day trip, just went and played it yesterday,” Thomas said last week.
“It’s still tough. I would say all of the rumours and everything are pretty on point. Yeah, I couldn’t tell you a par-3 over 250 yards that’s good, I would say, architecturally.
| Player | Year | Winning Score |
| Bryson DeChambeau | 2020 | -6 |
| Rory McIlroy | 2011 | -16 |
| Brooks Koepka | 2018 | +1 |
| Angel Cabrera | 2007 | +5 |
| Gene Sarazen | 1932 | +6 |
| Walter Hagen | 1919 | +17 |
“Obviously, you have 16 at Cypress Point is pretty special, but I definitely think there’s some potential viewing reasons that makes it, you know, a great hole. So I’m a big short par-3 guy. I think a lot of us and — a lot of players and people that watch golf are. Yeah, I just, that’s my opinion.“
With so many already clearly having the course in their head, it looks like it could be as much of a mental battle as anything else when the US Open finally gets underway.
