Brandel Chamblee has gone nuclear on Phil Mickelson, so to speak.

Chamblee has been an outspoken critic of Mickelson and his fellow LIV Golf stars over the past few years.

The 54-year-old joined the Saudi-backed golf league from the PGA Tour back in June 2022.

The disruption caused by the breakaway league has been terrible for golf fans, because we don’t get to see the best players in the world compete against one another outside of the majors anymore.

And Chamblee recently suggested that he’s been told personally that a merger between LIV and the PGA Tour will ‘never happen’.

What a terrible shame that is for fans of the game, and it has to be said that Mickelson was one of the lead protagonists behind the move that has caused all of this disruption.

The six-time major champion is one of the most skilful players to have ever graced the game.

Pat Perez actually suggested that Mickelson is the best bunker player of all time.

He truly is one of a kind, especially with any form of wedge in his hands, but it does feel like a great shame that he sold his soul to link up with LIV Golf.

Mickelson has come out with some really bold claims over the past few months.

Perhaps the most ridiculous of the lot was his suggestion that Scottie Scheffler wouldn’t win up until the Ryder Cup.

Mickelson was forced to backtrack on his Scheffler prediction, after the world number one racked up three victories in four starts last month.

And Chamblee has suggested how making that kind of prediction is the only way for Mickelson to stay relevant nowadays.

His attack on ‘Lefty’ and his fellow LIV golfers was started by a fan’s question on X on Saturday night.

Chamblee responded to a golf fan when asked whether he actually watches LIV Golf.

And he took a clear and obvious dig at Mickelson in the process.

He said, I watch, but generally it’s like watching a race of boxcars and being told they are F1 race cars. The only time anyone seems to pay any attention to LIV is when Mickelson or Norman make insanely idiotic comments about the skill of LIV players. Phil Mickelson has mastered the public art in which self-righteousness congratulates the celebrator. He and his LIV compatriots, all of them subject to the dramatic irony of having resigned themselves to play purely for money—not for history or for their respective countries—but purely for money, and now present to virtually no purpose, their presence in major championships is likely attended by a sense of urgency, the exact opposite no doubt, of the lack of urgency at LIV events.

Chamblee is obviously referring to Mickelson’s comments on Joaquin Niemann a few months back.

What Phil Mickelson said about Joaquin Niemann

Back in March, Niemann’s Torque GC team posted a message on X suggesting that the Chilean was a top five golfer in the world at the time.

However, Mickelson suggested that he was even better than that.

Niemann is obviously an outstanding player, but to suggest that he was the best player in the world back in March was either foolhardy or done merely for attention.

Chamblee thinks it was a case of the former for Mickelson.

And in fairness, he is most probably right.
