The Masters is back, with many of the world’s best players now at Augusta National for the first major championship of the season.

World number one Scottie Scheffler headlines the field for The Masters, having won both of his major championships at the event.

Scheffler is now out to defend his title, with world number two Rory McIlroy seeking a first win at The Masters.

The pair are among a long list of PGA Tour stars taking on the iconic venue in Georgia, with 12 LIV Golf players also in the field.

That includes past champions Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm among others, along with current US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau.

Collin Morikawa no longer Brandel Chamblee’s Masters pick

Brandel Chamblee has now done his best to pick a winner from the star-studded field, saying on The Skip Bayless Show: “The three favourites are Rory, Scottie and Collin Morikawa. Until Scottie played in Houston and what I saw in Houston and thought that’s it, that’s enough.

“Everything came together for him in Houston. Houston is not a great golf course for Scottie Scheffler, it’s wide open with no trees. It’s just about how much weight you can lift.

“Min Woo Lee has 190mph ball speed won by one over Scottie. I don’t know how they are going to beat Scottie this week.

“Scottie has the same release pattern as [Jack] Nicklaus. How are they going to beat him? It’s the perfect golf course for him, he’s hungry. And I wouldn’t have said that.

“Collin Morikawa was probably my favourite two or three weeks ago. He is a fabulous pick. Two I wouldn’t say major weaknesses but one is more major than the other.

“One is that he is not particularly long so he doesn’t as easily get the longest of irons into the par fives, so his angle of descent isn’t as steep so he can’t hit it as close.

“The other is he is limited in shot shape. He hits a lot of fades. If you go to The Masters in 2024 and go to the ninth tee. There you will see Collin Morikawa.

“It is a dog leg left, with a reverse camber fairway, he hits a fade down there and it goes behind a tree and makes double bogey.

“Scheffler who primarily hits a fade, hits a hard draw and hits a soft wedge to two inches and makes birdie.

“If Collin can hit draws off the second tee, nine tee, 13 tee, 14 tee and 17 tee, if he has figured that out, he can win. But that’s a big if.”

What is Collin Morikawa’s history at The Masters?

Scheffler hasn’t exactly had his strongest start to a PGA Tour season, with the American failing to win on the PGA Tour so far.

He did, however, have his season disrupted by hand surgery, and has still managed to really impress upon his return to action.

Morikawa meanwhile has also been in fine form, with two runner-up finishes from his five PGA Tour starts in 2025.

The two-time major champion is now taking on The Masters for the sixth time in his impressive career, having finished T3 last time out.
