Scottie Scheffler has captured the imagination of the golfing world in 2024, landing seven victories, including the Masters, Players and the Olympics.

Nobody has been able to match Scheffler’s relentless consistency. Even Xander Schauffele, with two majors under his belt, hasn’t been able to keep pace throughout the whole season.

Scheffler, who is now one of the highest-paid golfers of all time, is looking to finally add a FedEx Cup title to his glittering resume as the playoffs continue at this week’s BMW Championship in Denver.

As is regularly the case, the world number one has proven a topic of conversation, and Billy Horschel is the latest player to be quizzed on Scheffler’s stunning form.

Horschel has been thrust back into the headlines in recent times due to an impressive run of form, which has seen him back into the FedEx Cup top 50.

During his press conference on Wednesday, Horschel made a bold claim on Scheffler’s ball-striking, compared to Tiger Woods.

“Scottie is just an unbelievable iron player. His consistency ball-striking day in and day out is unreal. I’ve never seen anything like that,” Horschel remarked.

“Listen, I was around Tiger Woods around that 2010 to 2013, ’14, when he was still playing some pretty high golf, but I was never around that early 2000s. Obviously, I watched it on TV. But his ball-striking, we all just marvelled at it, consistency day in and day out.”

“They’re just two great individuals that are really good guys that go about the game the right way, that respect the game, that respect the players. They work hard and listen; what they’ve achieved recently in the game, they deserve because of what they put into it.”

Scottie Scheffler is one of the all-time great iron players

Scheffler, of course, could go down as one of the game’s greatest-ever players. But, for that eventuality to play out, the American must add more majors to his resume.

However, the way the the two-time Masters champ strikes the ball, particularly with his irons, is simply sensational.

Woods has claimed Scheffler’s foot movement belies just how well he strikes the ball, and it’s hard to disagree with the 15-time major winner.

At times, Scheffler’s bizarre technique perhaps detracts from the result, which is as close to near perfection as the golfing world has seen since Tiger’s heyday.
