One of Augusta National’s greatest rounds was crafted by now-LIV Golf player and former Ryder Cup prodigy Anthony Kim.

It’s easy to forget Kim was one of golf’s great prospects. The American captured the imagination of fans at the 2008 Ryder Cup, so much so that Tiger Woods was amazed by Kim’s talent.

In 2008, Kim won the Wachovia Championship and AT&T National. Two years later, his third PGA Tour win occurred at the Shell Houston Open.

Yet, after 12 years spent in the golfing wilderness–initially caused by injury–Kim is now a shadow of his former self.

One of Kim’s best-ever rounds actually occurred at the 2009 Masters Tournament.

Grouped with Rory McIlroy during the second round, Kim carded a 65. However, this seven-under-par score was unique.

Kim made a remarkable 11 birdies, which, to this day, is the highest number of birdies made in one round at Augusta National. “It feels like a 58 right now,” Kim said post-round.

While his playing partner McIlroy said: “I played with Anthony Kim when he made 11 birdies,” McIlroy said. “Yeah, there are plenty of birdies out there.”

Anthony Kim’s 2024 LIV Golf record

Unfortunately, Kim has struggled since returning to golf. The 39-year-old made his LIV Golf debut in Jeddah, finishing in 53rd place. One week later, in Hong Kong, Kim once again struggled near the foot of the field.

Kim’s first sub-par finish came at Greenbrier in August, which was his second-to-last LIV Golf appearance.

Despite his poor 2024 form, Kim will return to the LIV Golf League in 2025. The new season begins in Riyadh at the start of February.

Kim has been working hard on his game in recent months, and the 39-year-old will be desperate to improve upon his performance in 2024. However, another poor season will likely cause LIV to look elsewhere for wildcard options.
